Providence College or Drexel University

I have been accepted to both of these universities and would like your feedback about either of the colleges; good or bad.

I really would like to know which one of these schools has a better reputation/ranking. I like Providence (for marketing) because of its location and the student reviews seem to be good. But I have heard that kids only go to bars and the campus is just average. Also I am not super religious and I heard it can be very catholic. I like Drexel because of their design and merchandising program and its location. I visited and thought the campus wasn’t really nice. Also, the student reviews tend to be negative.

I am just looking for a nice college with lots to do that has a decent reputation basically. Any advice would be helpful!

somebody help me!!! please :/?

Not sure how Drexel is ranked, but PC is number 2 in the Masters Universities North category. Would recommend that you go more by your own sense of feel and fit at each school and what they can offer you in your particular major.

What does “very Catholic” mean? It is a Catholic school so there are going to be things like several Masses in the chapel instead of one, on Sundays, and special celebrations of certain feast days and such. I would expect the same at Brandeis or BYU or any religously affiliated school.

I really don’t think the students sit around discussing the lives of the saints, on Saturday nights.

Why don’t you give them a call & ask to speak with one of the students? Or do that visit & stay overnight thing, if they have one going?

The campus is in an urban setting, as is Drexel’s. The neighborhood around PC is not a dangerous slum but it is not the nicest part of town either. I lived in Providence 6 yr, though not in this part, and there is plenty of interesting stuff around. And buses.

Brandeis is not religiously affiliated JRZMom.

Brandeis may not have an official religious affiliation, but it was founded to give opportunities to Jewish students. There is a definite Jewish flavor on campus. For example, while PC classroom’s have crucifixes, at Brandeis there is a mazzuzzah (forgive my horrid spelling!!) on the door frames.

Two completely difference choices. Drexel is almost a comprehensive university. Providence is a small local college. Drexel co-op is also an important factor.

MMD916: Our son visited both of these schools and did not apply to Drexel. He didn’t like the campus and also did not like the co-op idea much. He did like the overall Philly area, though.

He was accepted at PC and it is one of his final two to decide on. Of all the schools we looked at, PC probably had the best freshman dorms and overall housing was very good.

I agree with azavalia - these are two very different schools. If these are your final two choices, you need to determine if the co-op is a deal maker (or deal breaker) for you.
