<p>tyman: I think you have a very good shot at the provost. I also had a 35 ACT, 4.8 GPA, top 2%, and only 8 AP classes all together, but I think my 6 years of science and foreign language helped. I think it would depend on your extracurriculars all together. I had a lot of very different extracurriculars, including leadership, but I had nothing like your science fair award or internship. I think that’s awesome. So i obviously don’t have any idea what they really base it on, but i think if your NMF, from illinois, and had a good essay, there’s a good chance you could get it!</p>
<p>Provost: I think it’s really hard to get, particularly for engineering or business. Provost is offering these to lure top performers away from the ivy. I agree most NMF apply to UIUC. If they get the scholarship, they might actually go there. If they don’t, they might decide to go Ivy or the like.</p>
<p>Son wasn’t offered Provost (last year) but is in campus honors program, and had top scores and grades. He did receive $7,500 in 1st year merit aid however. </p>

<p>I e-mailed admissions, and found out the Provost scholarship winners have been notified already. I know some of you were waiting to hear as well. Any NMFs here receive it? My D hasn’t gotten anything other than a letter for James Scholars. I know it was a longshot but it would have been great. It would be nice to hear someone here actually got it that was a NMF.</p>
<p>My DD is a NMF, did not get the Provost either, just the James Scholar letter. I do think one of the NMF’s in our school got the scholarship. Without the scholarship, it will actually be more expensive to attend UIC than the other private schools that gave out merit awards to her…</p>
<p>Same case with my daughter. With the NMF awards at other privates, tuition is cheaper than U of I. There are so many opportunities out there for NMF, but my D is pretty set on U of I, or Notre Dame, who gives nothing for NMF, and is at least 20 K more than U of I per year:(<br>
It would have been nice to at least be notified we didn’t get the Provost. At least you know of a NMF that got it. I was beginning to wonder who they gave them out to. Someone on this thread posted a few months ago he got one, but wasn’t even a NMF, He was only NM Commended. That made me wonder.</p>
