PSAT 2011 Saturday General Discussion

Is there any difference between a 240 and, say, a 225 on the PSAT? I mean, as long as your score qualifies for semifinalists, that’s all that matters, right?

Or do the NMSQ people actually differentiate potential scholarship recipients based on their scores?

Once you’re in semifinalist, it doesn’t matter what your score really was.

What were the choices and the question for the first problem on the gardening passage?

i know this question is really dumb but what exactly is the process for NMSC?

First you get a certain score or higher… then? are there different degrees of honor?

anybody know the exact question for the incompatible with romanticized views thing?

@christine - search the thread on the top right corner of this forum

anybody know the cutoff score for california last year?
i’m stressing because i made so many mistakes and overthought so much on CR
(i was going to put ‘wry disapproval’, but then i thought ‘well it isn’t wry…’ so i changed it)

What do you think my score will be? CR: -3 Writing: -2 Math: -0. I live in NJ.

Danielle2013: CR 74-76. Writing: 75-77. Math: 80

@dannielle2013, you are above 225, so no worries at NJ.

By the way, does ANYONE remember the actual question about human differences and the other choices in the Walden question.

@China: Did you try searching the thread? I think most of the questions especially regarding that passage have been discussed.

Yes, angelspeed. I have looked though all pages. Do u know the exact ques. with other choices. Everyone is just saying “human interference”

Hmm, I’m not sure, but maybe it had to do with this line:

“Yet traditionally, when we have wanted to think about our relationship to nature, we have gone to the wilderness, to places untouched by man.”

Perhaps something about why people generally go to nature or something like that. “Free from human interference” would make sense in that context.

Maybe someone else recalls the exact question?

whoa you really think it’s that high? @kayshoe

^I doubt the NJ cutoff would jump four points in one year. Last year’s cutoff was 221, as I recall - same as California’s. (Please correct me if I’m mistaken!)

Typically cutoffs have only increased by 1-2 points at most. But 225 is a safe cutoff to assume since that would probably give you a slight buffer in terms of the real cutoff.

LOL. I thought it was 223 (not to depress you or anything) but NJ is HARD

Oh I know that 225 isn’t the cutoff. I was referring to kayshoe’s post about my predicted scores. haha last year’s was 223 not 221 in NJ.

I was wondering if anyone could predict my scores?

Cr -0
