OFFICIAL saturday PSAT discussion

just getting this thread ready.... ; )

Good luck everyone. my last tips that i would like to emphasize:

Critical Reading:
LOOK for the WRONG ANSWERS
use KEYWORDS <- i guarantee u this will help a lot

Sentence Completion:
you should rush through this to give more time for CR.

Writing:
with complex sentences, don't fear..break it down and pair up clauses.
remember the main type of questions and nail these down: subject verb agreement, pronoun agreement, ambiguous pronoun, etc...

w/ the more arcane type of questions....(diction, idioms) look up on the internet for a list or something and memorize them.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL. 240's get a pat on the back and deserve a vacation.
(not to mention NM HEHEHEHEHEHE YEEEEHEHEHEH!!!)

just posting to get it ready now...

D took PSAT on Wed as a sophomore and said she left several blank due to time constraints. I'm wondering if others ran into the same problem and if there are suggestions--other than simply working faster!--to avoid the same issue when she takes it 'for real' as a junior. Thanks...

Hey Guys! I just got done with the PSAT like an hour ago, did anybody else?? If you did tell me what you thought. I have a few questions myself. THANKS!

I just finished like an 1/2 hour ago. I thought the critical reading section was hard. Those vocab words were impossible.

Heh...West Coaster school who wants the test to start at 9...

Maybe I shouldn't come in this thread. Yet.

Well, if I have time, I'll program my answers into a List format in my ti83 to compare.

1/2 hour left. Gotta go.

Yeah... my school has an exception for the PSAT (FALL BREAK). We are taking it on the 20th in our classrooms. Wish me luck!

why am i such a failure..?

Wow... lol no positive posts! I think I did ok!

damn time constraints, the proctor called 5 minutes and i had like 10 questions left to do, with like 5 to come back to :/

I finished at 10:43am. Sections 1 and 2 seemed to be a lot easier than 3 and 4. Writing was basically what I expected. I left 3 blank on the critical reading section, and I know I got at least 2 wrong on the math section, so my potential score is a 230. I'm hoping for the best, and I hope everyone did well today!

When are we legally allowed to begin discussion of the questions?

CR and math weren't bad. Actually, I thought that the math was really easy.

Vocab on the other hand, that was ridiculous. On the old SAT I got around 80% of the sentence completion, on the official practice PSAT I had around 90-95%, today I had around 50%.

Blah, I hope the curve is nice ... stupid vocab >_<

I'll post my answers to questions later today, when West Coasters are done.

I meant "West" :p

East coast is out! And it sucked. But the curve will be nice, it was the first new test!

fun questions: the edifying one...
laconic = terse
38 numbers with the digit "7" between 1 and 200

answers?

I agree, the vocab was tougher than some of the practices I took. First 2 sections were more easy than th last three, during the last 2 i started to get a little short on time!! ARGHHHHHH!!

maybe we'll get another one who was able to take his test home, ours were collected and will be returned to us when we get the results.

38 numbers with the digit 7.
How about the area of that triangle attatched to the square with Area = 1? Rad3 / 2?

There was one CR question I thought was absurd. Obsfucate - that one.

There were a few math ones too. #5 on the first section - shouldn't the answer be 58 because they're not parallel? I did the next best thing and did 180-58 for 122. Was the second math section the easiest thing in the world or what?

Laconic - terse? Few. Thanks.

I have a few more things to say but I'm shot on time, so...

The triangle one was r3/4...the sides of the triangle were each 1, so if you divide it into two right triangles they both have bases of 1/2, so the other leg is 1/2(r3) or r3/2...the area is 2r3/8 or r3/4.

the triangle attached to the sqare was rad3/4 or something....B, i believe
