Population and cultural diversity are two things, so “makes” should be “make.”
If X=population and Y=cultural diversity, then the sentence would be:

Its X and Y make Istanbul one of the most dynamic cities in the world.

ahh… I see. since there’s two things. darn, that one was tricky. oh well. I think the curve for writing this year was a bit harsh, so I’m guessing cutoffs will be a bit lower.

For those of you concerned about Commended Scholars:
It’s a national cutoff score, determined by your total score’s percentile (from my understanding, at least; I could be totally wrong about this whole thing, but this is what my ‘studies’ have lead me to believe). Usually, it’s been that all scores 96th percentile and up and have been Commended, which usually comes out to about a score of 201.

The asterik thing is non-sense in my opinion; I saw a friend of mine who also didn’t have an asterik despite her score being around a 168. But yeah, bottom line: if your score is 96th percentile and above a 201, you have a great shot at Commended status (unless we randomly as a whole destroyed all previous years and entirely skew the usually consistent data).

Wow, it makes me so annoyed seeing how many people got their scores back! At my school, we don’t get them back until Jan. 27 (everyone else at schools near me are getting them back this week!) I went to my school’s counselor’s office to see if they would give me the online code. Apparently, they won’t because they want to “explain how to interpret your scores.” Um, I’m pretty sure they’re not hard to figure out…it’s infuriating!

Meanwhile, all my friends from out of my district got their scores, and surprise! All in the 230s. Dang…I’m so scared now!
