PSAT 2011 Wednesday General Discussion

I found this PSAT as a whole to be tough, especially the math…took the practice test last night and scored a 215…took this a couple hours ago and not even sure I broke the 200 mark. How about you guys?

^UGH! I got that wrong! I thought about concession…ugh

I skipped two readings and one writing, and got one math that I know of wrong (stupid, stupid mistake… I realized it later).

I also am not sure if I got the writing question wrong where the paragraph started with ‘That’ and talked about thieves and the black market. I chose the word ‘that’ as the wrong thing.

Assuming I skipped two reading, one writing, and got one of each subject wrong, what sort of score should I expect?

I put E for the “That the group of thieves could not sell all of their stolen artwork indicated that the black market was declining.” Was declining is not necessarily wrong.

The last part of Writing sections where it asked something in the lines of "what can be added between two sentences?’ I put a list of something.

Cylinder : answer A

The short duel passage about the old city? Can someone explain what the passage was talking about? I put ‘outdated’ for one of the answer choices.

Also, I remember one of the answer choice as Deploring. Anyone agree?

for the passage on duncan and mo, what did you guys put for the one word description of mo’s thinking/teachings? and what did the tape recordings represent?

Yes, the one about the scientists failing was deplorable.

Do you mean “What can be added to the second paragraph?” (the one about readymades)?

The question you’re talking about is about the two short passages that deal with urban sprawl. That specific question was asking what the two passages called urban sprawl and the answer was “homogeneous”, or “consisting of all of the same parts.” This answer is correct because both of the passages talk about how the cities are similar to each other.

Tape recorder signified the difference between Mo’s students and Duncan’s.

One word description of Mo’s thinking and teachings: Arrogant, because he pontificated, which is to “express one’s opinions in a way considered annoyingly pompous and dogmatic.”

for the urban sprawl shouldn’t it be “outdated”?
because passage 1 mentions being built in the 1930s and passage 2 said vintage something
either way, both mentioned the towns were old

i think they meant the differece in student’s action…not necessarly looking down upon Mo’s teaching

i put D for the one about the thieves, as past participle was used incorrectly? shrunk to shrunken? idk

and what was the answer to the SC about the scientists being incorrect…it was either deplorable or irresolute? wasnt sure

I put irresolute

it was deplorable

The second urban sprawl passage did NOT say urban sprawl was outdated; it said it was going to be rejected by the current generation, accepted by the next, and revered as a historical monument by the one after that. We are talking about those passages, right?

Irresolute would mean it failed to have a resolution. It was deplorable because they were horribly unprepared and butchered everything.

What is this deplorable/irresolute question? I forgot

For the math section the 2nd the last question in the first math section was k/2k-n right?

yes, shouldn’t the question about the theives have been, shrunken instead of shrunk??

for math I’m pretty sure, that one was C, yeah, k/2k-n

I said Mo’s adjective was Angry. (He was pacing in the front of the class wondering why his students…)

What about the last question of the writing section? “What would you add to the second paragraph?” I put an explanation of how a readymade could become appealing.

Same here. I think the CR curve is going to be very generous this time. Additionally, I had no clue that elephantine could mean anything other than relating to elephants and picked it for the jellyfish one because the other choices just did not sound right. Also, what LETTER did you put for the last question on Emily Bront

for the math section’s cylinder one, did the answer begin with a 32? I had to rush that one

i think that one was 35rpi
