Hello I'm new and I was thinking of applying to boarding school next year. I'm currently a sophomore, but next year i'll apply to repeat junior year. I scored 170 on the PSAT's this year and I was wondering if with those scores themselves I could stand a chance at the following schools:
Choate
Deerfield
Peddie
Brooks
Taft
Loomis
and Milton

No. You're not an automatic shoe-in if you have good test scores. I've heard that they're actually the last thing the schools look at. Sorry but I'm also not familiar with the PSAT :(
What are you extra-extracurriculars? What are you passionate about?
Whether it be community service, swim team, or painting the schools want you to show them you have a passion and a willingness to participate at your school.
What are your grades? Do your teachers like you? Be prepared to ask them for recommendations!
Grades are SO important when applying to B.S.!

Test score is just one part of the admission. They also look at your extra curricular, recommendation, your grade at school and the essay you present.
Good luck !

I go to an intensive international school (i'm american though) in eastern europe and I don't need financial aid. My grades are about a b+ average. I'm in the only honors course they offer (math). My extracurriculars are 2 varsity sports (various awards) I speak fluent in an eastern asian language and english. I am self taught in piano and violin. I'm in various charity groups. My recommendations are good because the teachers are amazing. Anymore thoughts? I have a question if any of you know:

Is it more difficult to get into Choate junior year because after looking at threads on this board I see rarely anyone has been accepted?

like crickett said, your psat could be about as important as your dogs name.
i wouldnt go throughout my application thinking your in just cuz of them, cuz youll be dissap.
a huge thing they look for, is your EC list, honors, recommendations, your enthusiasm/motivation, and of course your essays.
