PSAT CLASS OF 2017 SCORES/ NATIONAL MERIT

Thank you! I hope the approximated cutoffs are somewhat accurate

How do some students with the same composite score have different SIs? And do you guys think a 223 will meet NM in Texas?

Any thoughts as to whether a 219 will make it in NJ?

@addalinemore Don’t worry, I am in the same boat as you…It seems EVERYONE on this site got about a 1400 or something…I got a 1380 with an index of 203 (I hate how reading and writing influences your index score more than your math) and I thought I would do better…

Does anyone know whether more students in the US took the 2015 PSAT exam as I heard the numbers were much higher which would impact both the number of NMSF recipients and to the extent that the overall curve is flatter would decrease score required to achieve same?

Looking at a 219 in NJ so trying to figure out what it could mean.

I think the Collegeboard site said 1.5 million students took it, but I’m not positive on that. @Chembiodad

in tx as well, do you guys think a 1470 with si of 218 is enough? i heard the cutoff should be 206 according to prep scholar but the test was easier?

@cgsarat71 Go here for your chances. http://collegeadmissions.testmasters.com/update-psat-scores-cut-national-merit-2016/

Other than that KNOW ONE KNOWS.

@suzyQ7 Thank you! hopefully I get in!

GUYS!! THE CUTOFF SCORES ARE MUCH LOWER THIS YEAR BECAUSE ITS OUT OF 228 NOT 240! So take your state’s old cutoff score and subtract 12 from it to approximate the cutoff for this year. For example, NJ with a 224 cutoff this year should be about 212. This means that practically everyone here could be a semifinalist, or even a finalist.
YOU’RE WELCOME!

@ricka8 It’s not that simple, I’m sure, BUT I like your calculation the best! Because, based on your calculation, my son makes the cutoff for CO!

Actually, more or less, it is that simple.

No, it’s not that simple. The shape of the distribution of scores will be different this year, because the test is quite different: no obscure vocab, a broader range of math topics, and no guessing penalty. At the tails of the distribution, a 228/240 conversion ratio is probably valid, but not in the middle of the distribution.

But with merit-semifinalists, we pretty much are talking about the tails.

I got a 1300 total, 201 SI
I live in WV, I don’t think I’ll get semifinalist or finalist but do you think I’ll at least get commended?

Oh my God …
Compass prep just updated their estimates, and I guess I won’t be a semifinalist anymore … Minnesota’s estimate went from 214-216 to 219, and my index is 218 (1470, 760 on math and 710 reading/English).
