@omgBrown you can have the same total scores but different SI numbers.
Interesting, just looking back, Yes, you’re right. I forgot that the calculations doubles on the reading/writing and can make for the discrepancy.
I’ve looked really hard for this, but where are the NM cutoffs for California? I have found lists of NMSF names, but no actual score cutoff. DD is in 9th, but scored 1480 with a SI of 220 – would love to know how many more points she needs to work for.
Cut-off scores will change year to year, and are only established in September of the year following the Fall testing. Anything until then are projections and estimates. The score can fluctuate, sometimes by as much as 4 points. The score your child gets won’t matter until the test they take in 11th grade.
@amsunshine here’s a list with projected scores for 2018

Thank you!
Is there a chance a 217 will qualify in Illinois?
1500… enough for Finalist?
@Starforward Your PSAT National Merit selection index qualifies you for SEMI-finalist when they release the cutoffs in September of next year (aggh) and then you have to submit an application for finalist afterwards.
I managed a 1480/221 in Ohio, and since the cutoff was 217 last year, I should be good for semifinalist
@Soccer1235 hooooooold up for a second… I have to fill out an application for finalist? Wat? I automatically get semi right… I don’t need to fill out an application for that? Fuuk
*edit: swears
Yeah the semi is automatic if you have the cutoff, but then finalist there is an application. However, it is fairly easy (15,000 out of 16,000) and the reason why people don’t get Finalist usually is because of bad grades
That feeling when you’re a bit under the estimated SI for your state according to that link earlier lol I’m from NY and I have an SI of 191
The scores for my DS (a 10th grader) have not shown up on his College Board account. The 2015 scores are there, just not the ones from the 2016 PSAT10. Anyone else have this experience? I noticed that at the top of the CB website there’s a banner that says “Most of the PSAT/NMSQT scores are available” - wondering if they’ve put up the results for the 11th graders but not the 10th graders (since technically only the 11th graders take the PSAT/NMSQT and the other kids are taking the PSAT)?
Do you know what the commended score cutoff is?
I am from NY and have a selection index of 206 as a sophomore. I wish that math and reading/writing were weighted evenly, as I had a 760 on math. Guess that I will have to work on my reading comprehension…
