Okay, well I am a rising sophomore and I was planning on taking the PSAT this year, however I just realized that I am going to be on a school trip the date that it is administered at my school. Since the trip is a week long, I am going to also miss any different dates at nearby schools.

Basically I am asking if I should take the SAT this spring as practice, or possibly the Fall of my junior year so I can study over the summer. I probably will take the PSAT junior year for the NMSQT, but will I be at a disadtvange by not taking it sophomore year.

Any ideas of what I should do? Thanks in advance!

can you take it at a different school while on your trip?
lol, j/k

...but really I think you should be fine without taking it this fall. I would take the SAT in the spring though, and definitely plan on taking (and studying for) the PSAT your junior year.

I go to a school where all juniors are required to take the PSAT on the same day in the school. So I don't think it will matter if you don't take it sophmore year. we didn't either. and colleges don't count SATs if its taken before sophmore year.

don't worry about it!!!!!!! PLEASE don't worry. The sophomore PSAT is always TONS different from the junior one (in terms of score), because one year of high school education makes a big difference. DO NOT WORRY. YOU WILL BE FINE. DO NOT TAKE THE SAT IN SOPHOMORE YEAR. You need all the schooling you can get. YOU WILL NOT be in a bad position taking the PSAT for the first time in junior year, and you will only benefit from waiting to take the SAT until the second half of junior year.
the sophomore PSAT is nothing but a gauge of your current state. it's useless.

not really. if u take it at the beginning then you'll have more time to study and improve your school before fall of senior year. and you wont have as much going on then(i.e. finals, sat2s, ap exams)

if you take it in the january of your junior year, you then have a chance to retake in april, june, AND the fall of your senior year. 3 chances to retake is plenty. there's no need to take the SAT earlier than january.
notice i didn't mention may. that date is around AP time--bad!

i guess i don't know about SAT2s...i took one SAT2 in may of sophomore year, one in the fall of junior year, and one in may of junior year...that isn't very typical though...most people take them at the end of junior year
