PSAT Scores-Emails from Colleges

I have not seen my PSAT scores yet, as our school has not released them yet. But I am getting emails from colleges like EPGY Stanford and Brown University Pre-College. It says on the email they got my contact email from College Board Selective Search and I have not taken the SAT yet. Does this mean I might have done well?

i got these emails too but im pretty bad in psat i probably got a 160<x>170 so it might be at some certain grade/percentile where they would like kids to apply</x>

Colleges will buy the names and addresses from College Board of all the students who scored in a specific range (Usually around the range of the SAT scores of people that that college accepts). I think almost everyone gets the Brown Pre-College things, but I’m not sure about the range for EPGY Stanford (although I got a letter from them too).

If it helps, I got a 191 on the PSAT and I got letters/emails from Northwestern, NYU, Occidental, Sarah Lawrence (which is weird since they don’t even require SATs), Fordham, Dickinson,Tulane, and some similar schools.

It’s also important to know that some schools just send lots of letters and stuff so that they’ll get more people to apply, and then reject a bigger proportion of them, in order to up their US news ranking.

I got a letter from Stanford EPGY too. I got an email from some random school today, but seeing as I haven’t even gotten my scores yet…

But I’ve gotten a ton of summer stuff. That’s been the majority.

Can anyone that got at least a commended tell me what colleges they got emails from?

I’m commended but I haven’t received emails from any colleges yet. Neither have my commended buddies.

Anyone else? Does this mean NMSF and commended don’t get emails, but people who performed well, but under the commended scores do get an email?

Actually, it depends on whether you chose to receive the e-mails from the colleges/programs or not. I believe that there was a spot to check yes or no. However, I do think that a higher PSAT score will help you get invitations from the more “prestigious” programs (TASP). I think that there is probably a minimum score for each program. If I recall correctly, someone said TASP gives invitations to those who got 220+. Also, these programs might send out information later in the month. Thus, I would suggest not relying on the e-mails to predict your PSAT score.

I do not think it means much. S got mail from EPGY Stanford and Brown pre-college with a 173 on the PSAT as a sophomore.

Is EPGY Stanford prestigious?

You get those emails before CollegeBoard even grades the tests.

TASP handing out acceptances to 220+ scorers seems so unlikely…that’s about 16k students.

@jungah: I think you misunderstood me. I meant to say that a higher PSAT score will help you get invitations to apply for the more prestigious programs. Of courese getting a 220+ does not get you accepted, but it gets you an application.

I only got a 191 and I got an invitation to apply for TASP and EPGY Stanford. So I would imagine that they aren’t extremely selective in who they send invitations to. That was last year though.

I think colleges can also buy the information of specific groups of people - for instance, when you take the PSAT, it also asks about what you might want to study, your race, income level (If I’m remembering correctly), and that sort of thing. So it might be that certain programs send out information to people who have selected a certain intended major - for instance, if you select engineering, you might get more letters from engineering schools.
