PSAT Scores for National Merit Semifinalists 2009 (H.S. Class of 2010)

DD got her letter today but it was mailed directly to the house and she’s NOT homeschooled. Don’t know why it didn’t go thorough the school.

It does? This is one of the times I wish the letter came electronically, so I could search its text. I don’t see anything like that statement on the letter my son received at our house. Maybe not everyone is getting the same letter.

Got the letter yesterday (219 in VA–I may not make it any further).
It didn’t say the nationwide cutoff score. I received the same papers as jml.

Apparently the principal’s letter is the one that states the cutoff.

I’m a 206 (!@*# math score!) who probably will not make it beyond commended, but I can hope, right? ;)

My counselor gave me my letter on Monday, by the way.

Hey guys, so I got a 217 on my PSAT and I’m from California. Does that mean I made it as a semifinalist since the cut off is 217?

thats last years cutoff (for hs class of 09). this years cutoff has yet to be determined (and it could rise, it could fall)

oh alright thank you, I didn’t realize that this years cutoff wasn’t out yet. Around when does it come out? Also, if I qualify to be a semifinalist, does that mean I have no chance of becoming a finalist because my score is so close to the cut off and lower than a lot of other peoples or is becoming a finalist based off of something else?

PSAT 223 ohio

The semifinalist letters will go to the school in August. If you are named a Semifinalist you have an excellent chance to become a Finalist as 15000 of the 16000 Semifinalists will become Finalists. They look at GPA, activities and recommendations. Get all your paper work in on time. Finalists will be named in February.

Does anyone know what the cutoff for hispanics is?

The Natl Hispanic Recognition Program is run separately, and I believe the cutoffs are by state or region. The cutoffs are quite a bit lower. In Texas, it was in the 190s.

[National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Scholarships and Recognition with PSAT/NMSQT - SAT Suite)

I, too, received my letter at home and am not homeschooled. I hope I receive the semifinalist letter(if I get one…) at home, so I don’t have to wait until September to find out… Pleeeease let the cutoff for Minnesota go back down to 2008 level.

Matok: Did you receive the letter from your school or from the NMSC?

I received it in an envelope postmarked from NMSC. I’m not sure if my guidance counselor even knows about it, since he hasn’t contacted me.

If you are receiving the NMSC letter/forms at your house (and you aren’t homeschooled) then one possibility is that your school code didn’t get put onto the PSAT form correctly or at all last fall.

If you look at the CPRS form that you received your 6-digit school code is on that form at the very top right hand corner of the paper. If it isn’t your school’s code (like maybe it is all zeros?) then NMSC would route that letter directly to you since they don’t have your school’s info.

Just my 2 cents…

The code on our letter is the (PSAT) code for homeschoolers in Minnesota.

Yes, the code on my daughter’s letter is the homeschooler’s code for Missouri. I was trying to provide a possible clue for the people that attend traditional schools but who are receiving their letters at home.

Got mine today at school. 211 VA.
Can anyone please refer me to a previous thread regarding the 2 colleges that you can be referred to? Which colleges should I pick(Reach or match)? Does it even matter? Should I send it?

thnx and congratz to everyone here!

wait… i haven’t gotten any letters about the top 50,000 or being a national merit semifinalist?? i got a 237… should i have gotten something by now?
