The suspense is killing me. Anyone else?

Well, I’d certainly like to find out

Okay, can we start the “I got my packet from my state, and I got a _________”, thread, Please! Please! Please!

Packets were mailed out today by the National Merit Org (I called and confirmed that)…
Depending on the mails, schools will get them Weds-Fri of this week!!!
Home schooled individuals will probably get them first!!!

So, please, any info, do share!

Thank you!

ps: Hey silverturtle, where are you?!? You rule on this subject!

Suspense is definitely killing me. I’m not in school yet - does that mean I might not know until after labor day?!

Thanks for understanding! the suspense is killing me, too.

I hear that the packets go to the high schools, so my guess is that you will not get official notification until you return (after Labor Day, I am guessing.)

If you have a way to reach your GC before school starts, you could try to be in touch with him/her by email, phone, etc.

HOPEFULLY, the info will start coming in to this site tomorrow or the next day!

Yes, the packages go to the high schools. I suggest that you all just wait until the school lets you know. Keep in mind that they are all pretty busy right now and don’t really need a ton of emails/phone calls trying to get information a few days early. Schools also like to use their own methods for releasing this data.
And, I do understand about the suspense.

wow, NE Mom.

I am not sure exactly why you are so protective of the schools, or the GCs, or how “busy” they are at this time of year.

If your child makes NMSF, the schools bask in the glory as well, as they should, because every part of your child’s education is a partnership between school and student/family. As part of the partnership, I believe it is appropriate to expect the school to advise you in a timely manner of news such as this. It would take all of twenty minutes for most schools to share this very important information; they should not be too busy to do it.

My daughter mentioned to her GC this week that the letter might show up soon. The GC is new and didn’t understand the process. She’s never had a NMSF as a student. I’m glad D talked with her so the GC didn’t throw the letter away! My D is right at last year’s cutoff so I hope it doesn’t go up a point this year!!! That would be a real bummer!

@MidwestPop…I am in the same situation as your daughter. My score is the exact cutoff from last year (Florida). I am really hoping that it does not go up one point this year. We shall see.

TQSMNTASP, good luck to you! And congratulations on your excellent score.

Just wondering, if a commended student does not make it to the semifinals, will he/she receive a notification as well that he/she did not make it?

I believe that the commended students receive letters in late September.

Anyone here gotten a letter from their school?

The silence is deafening :-)

There’s got to be at least one person who has heard who will share…

Received today from school in NC - 218.

Congratulations Mathfan and thanks for sharing!

North Carolina <=218

If I’m looking at last year’s numbers correctly, North Carolina’s 2009 cutoff was 214 – did it go up 4 points in one year (or is that mathfan’s admirable score)? Still waiting for notification in Ohio…

That is the student’s score.

So, we now know that NC’s cut off is “less than or equal to” 218 (likely less than).

Has anyone tried just calling the nice NM folks directly to ask about cutoffs? If your school’s GC is new or hasn’t worked with a lot of NMSFs before, that would be a helpful way to give them a heads-up and make sure no mail gets accidentally tossed.

D1’s school has a few dozen NMSFs every year, so the GCs know the drill.

Hm, so they’re coming? It’s unfortunate that I got extremely ill and didn’t go to school today. Well, if I make it there tomorrow, I’ll check. If not, I’ll have my mom call (yeah, I literally cannot speak, hence why I am here right now, so I can articulate my thoughts in some form).

Florida’s has been 212-211-211 the past three years (downward trend, kind of sad). Since Florida schools are losing students, the cutoff will likely be the same or lower, and I’m well above, so that should be good. Also sadly, my guidance counselor said that I am likely the only one in my class of 400+ (nearly 500). Oh well, there’s the Florida school system for you.

I’ll post on here when I find out if I’ve made it.
