PSAT Wednesday,October 17- How was it??

what did everyone else get for the writing question about the library of alexandria? it was like "The library of Alexandria thrived on the coast of Egypt from..."
?

Was it no error?

^ I think so.

I dont think it was no error.
Besides wasnt that a sentence improment question, so when you say no error, do you mean the original sentence was correct?
ANyways for the second column, i didnt get a single A so i dont think the orignial one was correct

^ oh. I thought it was identifying error sentence..gosh. I don't remember anything. =/

i think the alexandria one was D or something

Ya i think so too. I think A (the orignial one) was almost perfect except for like a date in the wrong place I think. It was either D or E (i think D) but not sure, that was perfect.

for the "words" question in the passage about animal evolution, did any of yall put that the quotes served to show that the author was skeptical (about animals being able to talk i assume). and for the passage about fiction and literature etc. did you guys get "credible example" as the answer to the importance of the excerpt from that lady's book. i didnt know if it was credible example or literary allusion.

o and for the prevent its being passed question i put correct because being passed is a gerund, so its should be possessive. but now im thinking that being passed was wrong because its the passive voice, and some of my friends said that if you switch from the active to the passive voice, thats wrong for these college board tests. thats wut they learned in sat class at least. does anyone know anything about this specific rule for college board tests?

skeptical, oh i thought it was to emphasize the importance of how the words are pronouned, more than the words themselves(since words have multiple meanisngs)

pretty sure its credible expample, but i dont rememberthe other choices, but i think it was like it gave how many things cant be relistic and then it gave one that could berealistic so yea it was an example, and unlike the others, it was credible

what was the one about arbella and charles. It said arbella wanted to marry charles, but then the question was like, how did the author present the argument that charles didnt want to marry arbella

was it presented it from charles's experiences and behavior to show that he would never marry her (since he knew they would getkileed)

ya i think thats wut i put. what was the question about why edward was mentioned? was one of the answers to show why charles didnt want to marry arbella because i remember putting that as an answer but im not sure if i put it for the question yur talking about above, or the edward question. and for the fairy tale question, im pretty sure i got it wrong because every body else put enjoyable but i put productive. so far i think i missed two vocab, the fairy tale question, and the "word" question. darn...

"o and for the prevent its being passed question i put correct because being passed is a gerund, so its should be possessive. but now im thinking that being passed was wrong because its the passive voice, and some of my friends said that if you switch from the active to the passive voice, thats wrong for these college board tests. thats wut they learned in sat class at least. does anyone know anything about this specific rule for college board tests?"

I don't know about a Collegeboard specific rule, but I googled the phrase and found it used in quite a few seemingly credible places.

There are obviously more, but those were just a few examples.

all right those make me feel a little better about my answer. hopefully im just being obsessive with the active vs. passive voice thing

cheese, i missed a lot more than you..
i missed like the visibly radiant one because i was thinking too hard..i didnt take it as a literal interpretation. i missed like around 6-8 on CR so like 7-10 points off..if not more..

"its being passed" is defiently a correct gerund, but i dont know (like your friends said) if you can use that phrase in the course of that specific sentence with the bill. i personally dont know, and i havent seen anyone else bring up passive vs. active. like what is exactly active and passive in the sentences?

i dunno, i think its correct and i got it wrong.

the active voice is like "The dog eats the food" and the passive voice is like "The food was eaten by the dog." The opponents of the bill...were influential is the active voice, and being passed is the passive voice. the quotes that thevidrohi found make it seem like its correct and my english teacher also said its correct so im hoping. does anyone know if draconic was the last vocab question on the first cr section? and for the balloon question on the first math section, does anyone remember if any of the answer choices were in the 60s because i cant remember what i put. im hoping i put the 85 answer not the 66 (number of kids who get two i think) although i would have to check the exact numbers...

its being passed is correct.
I asked my english teacher and she said it was.

for the comic one or the overly simplistic....i put intentionally comical but my friend who scored a 2350 on her SAT and 800 on the CR said that she put overly simplistic because the 1st passage talked about one-dimmension and the 2nd passage was more elaborate.....so....yeah....

on the same note.....in the same passage....there was a question that had to do with like "despair" or whatever...did yall put that?

ya despair vs. lack of prudence

shobylhs:
idk. I don't get why it's overly simplistic..i mean yeah..passage 2 did go into more detail, but I guess you are right. =[ Dang it.
-2 on CR all ready. blah

"being passed" was definitely the part of the sentence that was incorrect.

I've done loads of (P)SAT prep, and I'm 100% sure. First of all, it's wordy, it's passive, and it's a gerund which is used incorrectly. "passage" should have been there. A noun works better than the verb"ing".

Yup yup.

Anyone take the October 20th PSAT? Is there a thread for that?
