Psat

Does scoring low on my sophomore PSAT have any effect on college admissions? I did above average but is it possible to greatly improve my score? How? Do colleges look at your sophomore PSAT's?

Scoring low on your sophomore PSAT does not affect you in the slightest. Colleges don’t look at them at all. It is definitely possible to improve your score. Last year as a sophomore I received around a 195, but this year as a junior I got a 221. You can improve your score by buying PSAT prep books and go through and learn all the material, and take the practice tests in them. If you can afford it, you can get a tutor or take a prep course, but it really isn’t necessary. Over winter break, spring break, and summer vacation get some good studying hours in. It will really pay off. That’s what I did, and now I’m on my way to becoming a National Merit Semi-Finalist :D

Your scores should naturally improve anyway, as you would be taking harder classes as a junior and would be more prepared. My scores went from a 187 sophomore year to a 217 junior year without any studying whatsoever, and now I’m a National Merit Semifinalist. However, if you’re really concerned about improving your score, I would take IMaGecko’s advice and buy a study book or hire a tutor, depending on how much you can spend. Best of luck!
