I had such a horrible day today with the PSAT. I paid for my PSAT a month ago, and kept the receipt. In my school, ninth and tenth graders all over the school are required to take it. Juniors have to pay. There were about 10 of us that paid. We go into the class to take the PSAT, and when I get there, I find that I am not on the list. I run to the testing chairperson across the school, and she says that she didn't put my name on the list because I didn't show her the receipt, and that she didn't know if I could take it because there might not have been extra testing materials. How was I supposed to know I had to show her the receipt? I thought the treasurer would give her a list of students.

Then, I run back to my class, and my proctor gives me an extra testbook and answer sheet. This all happened to a friend of mine. I was in a room full of dumbass sophomores who wouldn't shut up. The math was ok, but the reading was horrible. My proctor every five minutes was yelling out 15 minutes left. 10 minutes left. 13 minutes left. He kicked some kid out. Everyone was so loud. There was a fight outside. I couldn't concentrate, and I had to block my ears so I could read the freaking passage.

It's like, first of all, why does my school require ninth graders to take the exam, and not juniors? Also, if there are no testing materials for someone who ACTUALLY PAID for the exam and wants to take the exam, but there is for students who walk out of the testing room, screw with the proctors and don't shut up and don't want to take the test, why don't they change the freaking policy?

I don't even know if my answer sheet will be submitted to ETS. I really wanted the merit scholarship and I studied so hard, and I knew I could get it. Now I think I just lost that and 15 dollars. lol. wait nvm, its not funny.

you should file a complaint. there's another one coming up on saturday, so maybe if you get in touch with them soon enough you can take that one.

I emailed collegeboard. Thanks : ) for the advice on the saturday retake. I pretty much included everything I put in my original post without the profanities to express my genuine aggravation.

Aww... now your school's gonna get it now... why'd you e-mail collegeboard..? Nothing really changes and it's just the PSAT. Unless you are really in contention for National Merit Semi... (which I doubt based on your test taking concentration skills)

The proctors did the best they could and they can't really control the kids who chose to be loud. Now someone might get in trouble because of you...

That's what you get for following the advice of some online guy you don't even know with just 150 something posts...

I understand the pain of being in a room where people won't shut up. I was in a room like that last year when I took the test as a sophomore and most people kept talking during the whole two hours about not wanting to take the two test. But my testing experience was good this year. My testing proctor was my AP U.S. history teacher and she was nice enough to feed us before the test, and she kept on telling us when we had 10, 5, 3, and 2 minutes left, which was helpful to most of the students since the only watch most students have in our school is a cell phone.

At our school, they require all 9th and 10th graders to take the test also. I guess it's to get 9th and 10th graders used to the test and give them as much practice as possible, so the students can't complain how the school never did anything to try to prepare them for the SAT.

Gryffon5147: JUST the PSAT? it counts for alot, actually. anyway, if the environment is that bad somebody SHOULD get in trouble. it's everyone's right to take the test! you shouldn't have to put up with crap just because you don't want to hurt someone's feelings! if the proctor is that inept, they SHOULD be mentioned to the college board. (and just because jtm2292 emailed them doesn't mean anyone's getting in trouble.) and how do you know the proctor did the best they could?

also, i'm not "some online guy". and number of posts does not necessarily imply knowledge. AND NOBODY KNOWS YOU EITHER.

look you guys, I really just need to do what I can so that I can take the PSAT again in a quiet environment. And besides, my school stinks anyway, and we are double F school and the district is completely dismantling the entire faculty and administration. There's very little that Collegeboard can do after that.
