PSU Business UG Ranking Drops in BW

Top twenty in US News and doesn't even make top 30 in the new Business Week rankings. Pretty depressing. I guess it's because the class sizes are so large because it looked like Smeal did well in other areas (like the recruiter rating). I know these rankings mean next to nothing, but unfortunantely, some place a lot of importance on them. It's just hard to believe that schools like Villanova and Richmond could be ranked soooo much higher (although I believe that both are pretty good schools).

I was proud to even see PSU in the businessweek issue. If you think about these are the top 50 in the counrty. The schools in front of it are very good schools. Additionally they highlighted PSU's real time trading fund or whatever it is of 4.7 million. They had a quote from a junior who said he got an internship with Goldman Sachs and was told that he had more experience than an MBA.

I am not sure about Richmond, but I know people at Villanova and it is a very good business school.

I trust these rankings more than US News.

These rankings are crap. they tell you nothing.

Schools like Indiana, Lehigh and Villanova are way overrated and I have no idea how they're ranked above Penn State.

Do you really think UVA's business school (ranked 2nd) is better than MIT's/Stern/Ross (3rd, 4th/5th)?

MIT'S (Sloan) and NYU(Stern) are better grad schools for business.

However I do think Michigan(Haas?) is a better b-school than UVA.

Michigan - Ross Business School

Yes, it is better than UVA's business school.

This is why i think these rankings are flawed.

Also, Smeal is much better than Lehigh's business school, whatever its name is.

Indiana is better than Penn State in nearly every aspect of those Business rankings, and even in US News, ranks ahead not only overall, but in nearly every category. I don't know why everyone thinks it's so overrated. Just because the school as a whole isn't as hard to get into? That's not related to the admissions to the B-School, the education received in the B-School, the starting salaries, the job placement.

Indiana's Business school is definately not better than Smeal...no way.

They're more or less the same in terms of starting salaries, job placement etc.

I realize Indiana is better than Penn State in all aspects of those business rankings, but as we all know business rankings are crap and don't tell you anything.

Funny, my son was accepted at Lehigh as well as Penn State Smeal. When we visited Lehigh (ranked MUCH higher in BW but lower in US News), we had lunch with a professor in the business school. It was clear that he thought Smeal was an excellent school (perhaps better than Lehigh except for Lehigh's "community" feel). He also thought Wake Forest was a good program, but pointed out that they didn't have a finance major. I think the rankings are suspect.

Yeah, Villanova is ranked too high is the general consensus for that school
