PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

Has anyone been accepted int the Health and Human Development college with the intended major of Hospitality Management? I have been waiting a month since all of my requirements were officially submitted and I have been anxious to get an answer.

@letmeincollege11 I have seen a couple of people get into that college. Don’t think any were for that major.

Thank you @zipbags. Also, they fixed the glitch for the High school transcripts, for those who were worried that it meant there was an error with their paper work.

My daughter heard a girl from our town got into DUS yesterday. She thinks her stats are 4.0gpa/1750 sat.

@letmeincollege11 my daughter was accepted last week into college of health and human development in kinesiology. Approx 4.25 weighted. Approx 3.85 unweighted. 1800 sat.

It is amazing how random these acceptances are. I understand the first batches were the higher end applicants. Now I wonder if they are just grabbing applications from a pile and looking at them. LOL

OOS, and going down…

@zipbags I don’t know if it is that random though. PSU says that they weigh 2/3 GPA and 1/3 sat and everything else. Almost everyone I have seen has a high GPA and we don’t know what the GPA came out to when it is equalized by PSUs formula. My daughter’s school is a 93% scale A. A lot of people have 90% As so maybe once they equalized the GPAs some move up and others move down. My daughter only got a few Bs in high school and I think all of them were above a 90% which would have made her GPA perfect at another school, and 11 of her classes were college in high school classes. Just looking at GPA and SAT does not really tell you someone’s true stats so don’t assume that someone is or is not a top applicant just based on two numbers.

@phillies97 Just to clarify, you got into University Park campus for fall with a 3.05 GPA and a 1510 SAT? For Smeal?

Have any acceptances for the Communications/Journalism program been sent out?

I applied as a communication major beginning of October OOS and I’ve been avidly checking the portal many times a day. I’d like to know the same thing!! @Leapie45

@phillies97 On another thread you posted a GPA of 91.43 and ACT of 29. That is a much higher GPA than 3.05 and an ACT much better than an SAT of 1510 (unless you’re talking about just CR and M)

@phillies97: are you a recruited athlete? Is one of your parent an alumnus/a and a big donor?
If not: Are you sure you didn’t get into the 2+2 program - can you check?

@phillies97 on Binghamton page you state that you have a 4.0. Do you have another brother or are you just full of crap.

^It’s just really really odd, because the GPA range is 3.55-3.97 at UP, and that counts for 2/3. Then your test scores count for about 1/3 and should be above 1750. Smeal is more competitive than average and test scores higher than that are typically expected. Students with GPAs below 3.4 and test scores below 1650 are almost always directed to the branch campuses, unless they’ve got a hook (especially, being athletes).
Hence our confusion.

my daughter also in communications has not heard since sept 8th

congrats @phillies97 ! I’m sitting here with a 30 ACT and 3.9 GPA trying to getting into Smeal also. Getting very anxious!

I’m sorry if this sounds mean or snarky or whatever…but I do not believe that anyone got into UP, fall, freshman with a 3.05 and 1500 SAT and they found out in November. Remember everyone, anyone can post anything here. Does not make it true. Look at the overwhelming evidence of stats accepted. PSU also considers EC’s very little. Also, rounding up from a 91.43 would round roughly to a 3.7. Not a 4.0. I think we have someone having a little fun at the expense of the anxious people still waiting.

@jlhpsu I have come to the same conclusion!

Their was someone who posted a similar acceptance stat a few days ago and then a bit later deleted it.
