PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

@mecaseq1 Congrats…Did your daughter and niece hear today? Also, was it UP or one of the other campuses?

Will it be hard to declare as a Finance major if I go in as undeclared? I’m talking about when students declare their majors at the end of sophomore year, not when applying.

@zipbags . My niece applied in early October and heard last Wedneaday night. College of science. My daughter applied end of Ocrober and heard last Friday night (two days after my niece). College of health and human development. Both fall 2016. Both University park. Niece is from mid size public school. Daughter is from a small catholic school. Niece has a sister there now. Daughter is my oldest so no direct legacy (cousins and uncles but they don’t go on application). My nephew is waiting to hear and he has a brother there now.
He is a great student too and from the same public school as my niece (his cousin). Slightly higher sats than my daughter and niece but slightly lower GPA. But definitely a very strong candidate so we are all hoping for great news for him soon.

@Mecsesq1 Thanks. My daughter applied to Health & Human Development also. Do you Mind telling me what her gpa/sat stats are? Amazing how random decisions are made.

@zipbags. About a 4.25 weighted. 3.85 uw. But her school is a 93%A scale not at 90%scale so equalized her GPA is almost perfect since she had some 92%s along the way. Took 11 college in high school classes. 1800 one day SAT. About a 1900 superscored but PSU doesn’t SS so that didn’t matter. Haha. 3 varsity sports. Over 400 hrs community service. Various science awards. Lots of other EC stuff.

@sambloomberg you need a 3.5 GPA in college, which if you ask me is very hard. All other business majors are a 3.3 gpa to transfer into. I talked to a few friends and an admissions counselor about smeal, they all said the best route is to apply directly. I was told if your stats are in the upper 50% of their average range you have a good chance

3.2 gpa sorry

Hey…
I’ve applied back in early October but I haven’t heard back yet. I am a little worried bc of my relatively competitive major (computer science in school of engineering) and just about all of my friends have heard back as of last weekend.
Here are some stats:
SAT: 2170 (CR 700 M 670 WR 800)
GPA 4.0
dual enrollment for computer science

shouldn’t be a problem right?

EVERYONE needs a 3.5 gpa to declare a finance major at the end of sophomore year, whether they entered Smeal as a freshman or entered DUS. PSU doesn’t care whether you enter Smeal or DUS as a freshman; either way, if you meet the requirements (gpa and completed coursework) by the end of sophomore year, you can declare your business major (3.5 for finance and 3.2 for all other business majors.) And if you don’t meet the requirements, regardless of whether you entered PSU Smeal or DUS, you will be told to find another academic college within the university.

Ok thanks for the info about the GPA minimum.

I wasn’t sure if there was a wait list or anything for students in DUS going into popular majors.

No, you are on exactly the same footing as aspiring business majors in Smeal. The only difference between entering Smeal or entering DUS as a freshman is that if you enter Smeal you will be given a Smeal advisor. But the DUS advisors are well aware of the requirements needed to declare a business major; they will put you on the path just as well as a Smeal advisor would. After that, its up to the student to get the grades.

anyone hear from Eberly college of Science yet?

Heard from many people that got accepted to Smeal previous years that they and all of their new friends at Smeal, for the most part, didn’t hear till the last week PSU promised to send decisions back, which is the last week of January. Obviously some people are hearing already, but that’s supposedly where the majority lies. It looks like I’m in for a long and dreadful wait, but hopefully it’s worth it in the end! Just thought I’d share with all of you other Smeal applicants.

Logged in to check my admission status tonight and under supplemental material items, this showed up where “official high school transcript” used to be. Anyone know what this means?

High School Transcript (Beaver Area High School) alt=“Details about High School Transcript” border=“0” align=“absmiddle”>

My application says the same. Could be a glitch

Does anyone know if you apply by November 30th with Summer as an option if you will still hear by January 31st, or will you be notified of your rejection for fall and hear about summer at a later date? Or is it just listed that you got in Summer on your acceptance letter?

In a similar situation here. Waiting for computer science and other friends have gotten their acceptance already.

@LegendarySean see post above. Will let you know when we hear!

Application has been in review for about 2 weeks now. Looks like we are in for a long wait too.

Submitted application Sept. 4th, all test scores and transcript was in by the 14th. Application has been under review for 6-7 weeks now. Applied to Eberly with summer session. 1860 SAT, 3.7 GPA, starting to get anxious.
