Anyone else getting an annoying error message when checking their portal? “Our web developers have been notified, and they will investigate the cause of this error. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.” Just wondering! :DD
@Fisherprice111 yup, I just got that too
Alright thanks! I have emailed them
So the PSU rolling admission is similar to the double secret probation where we tell you it’s rolling but we don’t quite announce in more visible terms its “modified”? So it’s not quite early decision but it’s not because it’s rolling except it’s modified because we make up our own rules and interpretations and it’s up to you to figure out PSU connotation and the true meaning of what they try to communicate. Got it! Now, back to real life …
@Snarkyboy, you have to think of it more like this…you have a huge list of chores to complete in a short amount of time, you look at the list and it is difficult to tell exactly how long it is going to take you to do each of them but some of them are clearly quick tasks so you do them first to quickly shorten your list, then you begin tackling each of the remaining chores in the order in which they appear. Sometimes you hit a chore that you say well jeez if I start this one it might take a long time and others could be quicker and you set it aside. Then at the end of the day, if there is still time you go back to the ones set aside and complete as many as you can following the same process until the day is over…
@snarkyboy You are brand new to CC so it may be beneficial to you to stroll through some of the old admissions threads. Many of these things have been discussed at length. Also, as stated before, PSU does announce clearly their admission deadlines and the decision deadlines. What happens in between there is what’s up for interpretation. But they have also published blogs on their We Admit blog that explains the step by step process an application takes after it is sent. I found that really helpful while we were waiting.
When I do chores or work assignments I have planning and prepation closely followed by timing and execution. Not nebulous excuses for a flawed system subject to pseudo- intellectual interpretation.
Snarkyboy has succeeded in derailing the thread.
If people want to know how the process works, there are two videos and #436-437 are excellent explanations.
Let’s move on to kids who got answers - for now, most will be positive. Only students who seriously over reached will be denied at this point.
At our high school’s college night in early October, PSU had a booth. When my child asked about the admission process, and mentioned that the application had been submitted the first day applications were open, both reps of PSU (and alumnae) said applications were on a first serve, first notified basis and that we would “almost definitely” hear by Halloween, and “definitely” the first week in November. So perhaps there is an overall communication error, or the information given to school reps is flawed, because as of today, we are still waiting despite a school official (in some fashion) assuring us we would have a definite answer by a certain date.
Do you mind me asking what your Childs Stats were? Gpa and sat?
@Leapie45 The admission reps are usually parent volunteers that go to admission events. My guess would be that the process was not adequately communicated to them as PSU Is most definitely not a first in, first out process. My D applied the first day applications were open last year and heard only a few days prior to the January 31st notification deadline. That is much more common than the ‘hear within 3 weeks’ candidates.
I can assume we won’t be hearing any decisions from PSU until next Monday? Only reason I ask is that some people were getting acceptances through the portals on weekends.
Also, does anyone think with the deadline coming next Monday. That we may start seeing more decisions being released after that date than we have been seeing now?
@jlhpsu, the two reps were both recent PSU grads, I’m not sure (they didn’t make clear) if they worked for admissions or if they were volunteers. However, both said they said they were notified in late October.
1820 SAT, 91 GPA unweighted, class rank in top 10%, 4 AP classes, the rest honors classes.
@Leapie45 What school/major did your child apply? Speaking of college fair reps. We also met a PSU rep at a college fair. She didn’t work for the school. She was an alumni from our area.
Honestly, it’s probably good he/she hasn’t heard. I mean to be honest only the most competitive sats usually hear first, and thoes who are a stretch hear back first too! So being in the middle of the pack she won’t hear till December/January. This is good tho! Well that’s what I’ve been told at least. I’m in the same boat, 1760 sat, 4.2 gpa, etc. Have hope!
My son applied in early October and got accepted last Thursday 11/19. Similar stats to some I am seeing on the most recent posts on this thread. 1810 SAT best sitting, 4.05 weighted (probably 3.7uw), 4AP and all honors, lots of EC, plus legacy. Accepted for fall at UP for DUS. His friends heard a week earlier than he did -they all had super high stats. I don’t know if there is any rhyme or reason but good luck to all who are waiting- hope this offered some reassurance to those with similar stats.
She is a journalism major, applied to main campus.
As you can see, typsu20 proves my point versus leapie45’s comments, no matter what drivel PSU and the pseudo experts say on this thread. And a Happy Thanksgiving to all the turkeys out there rolling through the admissions process.
@snarkyboy first of all, you really live up to your name (surely intentionally), so kudos on that. Secondly, did you apply to Penn State? We haven’t heard anything about you other than that you don’t like the admissions process, which has taken up all 6 of the only posts you’ve ever made on CC.
I think that we should move on with this thread and remember that it’s a decision thread. I’m as guilty as anyone posting non decision items here. But we certainly don’t want it to devolve into something less supportive and encouraging.
