@crazycat220 I’d love to see those numbers too. That’s kind of the point of DUS. 80% of students change their major. So kids spend all of this time worrying about getting into a specific college, when Penn State doesn’t actually REALLY admit anyone to a specific major until Junior year - and the odds are that the majority of those kids will change majors anyway. From my perspective, other than a direct entry major, I don’t know why more kids don’t go in DUS. There is no benefit from my understanding to applying ‘directly’ to a major vs. DUS. EVERYONE, whether in DUS or “in” a specific college, must complete the same entry to major requirements and each can graduate in 4 years if they follow the recommended plans.
@Redhawkmom Don’t get discouraged if you see some decisions come out for Smeal and your son isn’t among them. Contrary to what people are posting here, PSU does not make decision by “school” or major applied. It is completely random.
Basically there is no disadvantage to applying to DUS unless you have an advisor that steers you the wrong way. I wonder if there is an advantage to applying to undecided engineering vs a specific engineering major as a freshman.
@jlhpsu thank you for your feedback! Now I know the deadline is tomorrow but if I decide to switch once the deadline has passed however before I receive a decision will I still be in the priority deadline or will I be put to the end of the list?
I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE OUT SOME HOPE to those of you who have been waiting anxiously to hear a decision.
One of my friends got accepted into engineering at university park (fall session) with a 1650 sat, 3.8 uw 4.3 w gpa. I know his gpa is good, but that goes to show that weighted gpas are likely taken into high consideration, and sat scores don’t mean everything. He didn’t receive his decision until January.
Believe me, I know that reading these posts stresses out those who are waiting for a decision. But CC tends to make us forget that there are thousands of applicants who will get accepted, and not every single one of them is going to post on CC. Some will hear sooner than others, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get accepted later on if you’re not hearing right this second-- even if people with similar stats who applied for the same major are. Hang in there you gooood
Also, someone else I know got accepted (fall session) at university park DUS with a 1450 sat and 3.8 uw 4.1 w gpa. She was involved in a lot.
The guy who got accepted for engineering didn’t have as many extra curriculars. Maybe three clubs and golf team
@Nrnjersey124 I would stick to Smeal. I got into Smeal Nov 19 with a 1900 SAT and 4.1 weighted GPA, and I applied sept 1st. My brother got into smeal a few years ago with a 3.95 or 4.0 weighted GPA and about a 1780 SAT. He heard in late January. You’ll be fine, I would wait it out. I was really stressed about it too and the same day I was accepted I almost called and changed to DUS but decided not to, and later that night I logged on and saw I got in. Best of luck!

General Comments: Very excited about this being my first college acceptance! It came fairly early (Mid November). I think my acceptance shows the emphasis they really place on GPA and how you don’t need the highest SAT. Looking forward to visiting the campus as the school’s one of my top options.
@abbeyk711 - My son applied to COE (2014) with stats of an UW GPA is a 3.715, ACT 30, and lots of honors/AP courses. He applied in October. He along with about 5 other friends applying to COE did not hear until after MLK hoilday. All pretty much had the same exact stats.
He is just finshing up Fall of soph. year. I guess this Spring he will see if he makes the cut off for entrance GPA for Chem. ENG. As for the advisor, it seems that it doesnt make a difference in his case. My son walks in with what he plans to take and the advisor just prints out what he thnks my son should take based on past courses on what needed before ETM. Hopefully, they are at an agreement. Not much advising going on there as I see it.
@bodangles - yes, I remember you entering in 2014. I’m pretty sure you two have probably have crossed paths in a few classes. He is finding it a lot tougher than he thought it would be. He can’t get away with the same studies habits as he once had in HS. I think he is still learning and trying to figure it out. I so wish he would take complete advantage of every resource available to him to do better. He is being a bit stubborn. he does the tutoring, study groups, TA hours for a bit and then slacks off. He may switch to electrical - I think this what he said over break.
how do you know if your application and all supplement materials have been accepted? I see checkmarks next to application fee, transcript and sat scores, but my application status says:
Your application materials are being verified. Any additional application materials required to complete your application will be added to your Application Checklist during the verification process.
We will update this message when our review of your supporting materials is complete.
I have gotten no email or confirmation that my application and all needed materials have been submitted. can anyone help me with this question? thanks
@slcake For me the portal said the same thing for probably around 3 days until it got updated. My recommendation is just wait a couple more days for the program to go through some more processing and then you’ll most likely be set best of luck!
@Nrnjersey124 thank you for the response! I actually called to verify because I was so nervous about the priority deadline being today and my status said that for more than a week. It all got sorted out though! best of luck to you too!
@slcake Were you actually able to contact the undergrad admissions office? I called multiple times today because my application continues to say I need SAT scores sent in even though a college board indicates they were sent to PSU 10 days ago. I could not get a hold of anyone via phone, as the line always beeped indicating they were busy. No responses for email either.
@slcake… my daughters message was the same as yours for about 3 weeks . It changed today to " Your application is currently under review. We have received everything required to complete your application. Once a decision is made, it will be posted here".
