PSU Class of 2021 Decision Thread

I honestly think Penn State looks at GPA and if it’s over a certain number they review the app immediately. If other STATs are on par they send an acceptance. If GPA is not high enough at first it gets thrown back into the mix and evaluated at a later date…so I think they triage by GPA

Probably won’t go here, but flattered to be accepted!

A weighted GPA of 3.4 is definitely not very good.

Has anyone heard of anyone getting accepted for Summer session yet?

Accepted Fall 2017 for Biomedical Engineering
1420 new sat
3.9 w gpa
Legacy, Male
Applied on halloween and heard back today

Seems like they have only accepted the top dogs for engineering so far @itry2hard I applied bioengineering, same as u, and my school has a ridiculous weighted gpa system that makes it like 6.0 but really my UW is a 3.65 and only got a 1340 SAT so might be waiting a while I’d imagine.

@averagewhiteguy we probably have close unweighted GPAs and your SAT is better than most applicants so hopefully you’ll hear back before christmas. Just check the portal once a day after 9 am and you won’t miss it

It’s hard to discern GPA’s as schools give credit to Honors and AP classes at varying levels. One school may give .5 for Honors while another will give .1. Grade inflation is another issue.

If a 3.4 GPA is not great coupled with a 1430 SAT, (720 Math and 710 CR) for DUS/Summer then I have PSU confused with an Ivy

That’s where unweighted GPA and class rank come in, then. You’re not giving us a lot of information.

What are you applying for? PSU (main) is one of the most competitive public schools in the county.

Accepted to Eberly

Varsity Sports(ultra competitive)
Volunteer in numerous charitable orgs
Great essay(I think)
Great Rec’s
Applied Sept 12th and still waiting for an answer

My point is these WGPA’s are all over the board. It’s hard to discern between them. If you only give consideration to UWGPA that isn’t fair as well since kids taking harder classes don’t get the benefit of pushing themselves. That’s why IMO the SAT or ACT is the great equalizer

So the frustration is not getting an answer for 3 months more so than a yes or no.

@Oneiota did you get accepted?

@Oneiota I agree with you completely, but the fact of the matter is PSU takes GPA in to account as 2/3 of your application and SAT/ACT as 1/3, so guys like me and you with lower GPA’s but higher SAT’s have to wait longer.

And yeah, you’re definitely not alone. I had to wait 2 and a half months for my acceptance (applied Sept 2 ish). But don’t hate the players, hate the game. PSU order is randomized. It could be that you’re unlucky.

I emailed an admissions officer today. They said that the admissions office is really ahead of the game this year because they got all the kinks out of the new technology system (lion path), which they had problems with last year…I really would not be surprised if a lot more people heard before Christmas than years past

Seriously annoyed, I applied in September or Poly Sci and I have a 4.1W and a 1440/1600, and my EC’s are stellar. People with a lot worse stats than me have already heard back, its just so annoying.

Accepted College of Engineering - Comp Sci

I thought it was 2/3 GPA and Class Rank and 1/3 SAT or ACT. My school doesn’t rank so not sure how that impacts things w/admissions

@BreBre235 …still haven’t heard yes or no
