If I come into Penn State with some AP credit, and either do summer session or take some classes at a local university, can I graduate early and then start an MBA program and finish in 5 or 5.5 years?
@bodangles all it really does is increase your chances, but I know several colleges do accelerated programs and I am curious to see if Penn State does one as well
If you take 1 Maymester and 2 Summer Session (A or B) classes each year, starting Freshman year with summer session (2 classes), it’d make up to 11 classes so it’d be the equivalent to one year. If you have AP credit (look at the conditions: you need a 4 or sometimes 5 and not everything counts for your major, some may only count for placement and elective credit) you’d likely be able to get away with taking Summer Session before Freshman year + 1 Maymester + 2 summer session before sophomore year and perhaps before junior year depending on how many Ap credits you have, leaving space for a very important summer internship after junior year.
BTW, never plan to do Maymester + Summer Session A + Summer SessionB. You’d seriously get burnt out. Always plan for a break to go home, see friends/family, go to the beach, work, etc - do something else than study. Burn out is real :). (See AFrenchie36’s tumblr…)
The only “accelerated” program I know at Penn State is the Science BS/MBA.
Just popping on here after spending a ton of time on the Class of 2019 thread when my son applied. He was accepted for the summer session in 2015 and is now a very happy Penn State sophomore. I remember that the waiting is agony; the decision to go for the summer or not might be difficult. He didn’t love the Summer Session, but mostly because he missed his girlfriend and summer at home. That said, he plans on staying in State College this summer. And probably the best two weekends of his life were in Indy for the Big 10 Championship and Pasadena for The Rose Bowl. FYI: I have a HS senior who’s considering Temple and Pitt. :-0!
Stay positive, try not to check MyPennState every hour and if you get in, GO! If not, you’ll love where you go (Penn State was not my son’s first choice…but when he was offered a semester at American before starting UDel he switched to Penn State). I don’t think he’s thought of UDel once since he set foot on campus in University Park!
Looking for feedback. My son applied before November 30th for smeal UP. On January 26th he found out he did not get UP but 2+2 smeal Altoona. Since he doesn’t want to go to Altoona we called that day to be reevaluated for DUS. They told us we would hear in about a week. A week goes by and the portal changed to say summer was the starting campus not fall anymore however it never actually said he got summer but it did say something about his application being updated. I emailed them to ask about it and they said he did not get fall and the only way he can go to UP is summer. They didn’t exactly say he got summer but they didn’t say he didn’t either. Well now it’s a few weeks later from that change on portal and it now went back to the original message everyone had before they made any decisions. I have tried to email as I’m totally confused, especially since they said he would hear within that week. People on here who called up to be reevaluated heard within that week as well as people he knows from school. Can anyone shed some light on this? Should I just call again? Especially since they aren’t answering emails?
@nyann1127 at this point, I’d call and ask to speak to an actual admissions rep to get clear answers. Going back and forth with emails and waiting days between them for an answer is frustrating. Just call…you will get a clear answer right away.
My friend wants to know when he will hear back. He applied late december, right before christmas and our college counseling office sent the grades the 28th of December. It only just came up that they received the transcripts today. This is after I made him email the admissions office about it. He said in the email all it says is that his application is complete and under review. So would he qualify for the February 28th notification or will it be rolling for him
Here’s a miracle…My sister got rejected DUS Summer 2017 with a 3.3, 1100 SAT score (4 ap’s and a lot of honors aswell.) good recs, ec’s, and essay (optional though.) She was upset because this is her dream school. She called and asked to get reconsidered for education instead. 2 weeks later and she just got accepted into Education Summer 2017 don’t give up! We also are brown so we have higher standards set upon us and we go to a VERY competitive high school never give up!!
