Is there any indication from what the portal says on it to help determine your outcome? I read somewhere people said the picture changes depending what your getting offered? My D’s status changed and says now “thanks for submitting your application log in tomorrow to your my psu portal to your view application status and next steps” gulp gulp.
The picture used to change, but that is no longer the case. Also, everyone , keep in mind that PSU is a very large institution that is constantly reevaluating and tweaking procedures. Because something was done in past years does not necessarily mean it will happen this year.
Thx @greenbutton
My status just got changed to application being verified, is that an indication of anything?
My daughter was just accepted. Health and Human Sciences - Nutrition
OOS, GPA 4.8 10 college/AP classes SAT 1330
I am trying to login to my Penn state account right now. At first, it gave me “error your account is not found” but when I logged out, the whole website is down currently.
@hopefulcadet333 I am having the same experience.
@weareMom a few years ago, the picture would change and there would be a message letting you know your decision was coming “in the coming days”. If your picture changed to an alternate campus, it was almost definite you got into an alternate campus. Staying as UP campus usually meant you got in to UP, and changing to the Lion meant that you didn’t put an alternate campus and were likely denied outright. The “coming days” notice was nice because it let people know that their decision was just around the corner. They do not do that anymore. Now, it goes straight from “your application is under review” to a decision - although that time frame can be days, weeks, or months. A few years ago, my daughter had an “under review” status for 4 1/2 months.
Log in tomorrow and see what’s there. When did she apply?
Is there any chance PSU will do a big wave of acceptance letters or are they strictly on a day-by-day basis? For example, I applied to OSU, and their second wave of acceptance letters comes out tomorrow. I know a lot of schools will be notifying kids of their decisions tonight/tomorrow too.
@jlhpsu She applied Sept 1st. UP in Fall is her first choice but she would be just as thrilled to start in summer. Harrisburg is second choice. Weird thing is this am it gave us a message when we logged in “thanks for submitting your application log in tomorrow to your my psu portal to view your application status and next steps” also the entire left side was mostly blank as well as the picture at the top was the lion. Now its back to saying its under review. Ofcourse its not tomorrow so who knows lol
@weareMom that sounds like a glitch, but I guess you will know for sure tomorrow! I know the frustration. When my daughter applied several years ago, she applied Sept 2 with her application complete by Sept 6 and she didn’t hear until January 26. I was dying. It was a looooooonnnng wait. But she got in …for summer…went and LOVED it. I’d recommend summer to anyone.
Good luck!
The pic doesn’t change until you get a decision. At least it didn’t last year. The whole screen changes when a decision is made.
I think most decisions occur in January.
@Psuguy1818 So, I calculated my son’s weighted GPA based on the scale you mentioned above. That weighting give an even higher GPA than his “school” weighted GPA, mainly because of A’s in AP and Honors classes. I assume that is a good thing? The way his works out, its something like a PSU Weighted 4.19 GPA, School Weighted 4.05 GPA, School Unweighted 3.67 GPA. This seems to make sense? I’m hoping these are good numbers for UP along with a 1400 SAT???
^ yes, those are good numbers - last piece of the puzzle is what major he applied for.
Accepted Monday into the school of engineering for biomedical!

Applied to DUS
Applied for summer session
Really disappointed
@MYOS1634 He applied to DUS. Eventually wants to end up in Business but took everyone’s advice and stayed in DUS since it seems pretty much the same as a place to start.
@Cdh2018101 Was that GPA weighted or UW? Your SAT was below the middle 50% and your GPA was right at the middle 50%, so when that happens, the likelihood of getting a branch campus is a lot higher. I’m sorry you are disappointed. I don’t know anything about Berks, but I do know my son started at a commonwealth (Altoona) and loves it. If you really want a Penn State degree and the opportunity to go to UP, give it some thought. Looks like Berks has dorms and a lot of activities which means that it will have a very traditional college “feel” that some of the commonwealth campuses don’t have. I know you are upset now, but just remember that you will end up wherever you are supposed to end up, and in the end, you will wonder why you were ever upset to begin with because you will have found your place. Best of luck.
@PAHoosier Your son’s stats seem to really good for DUS admission. I would be surprised if he didn’t get in. Good luck!
@jlhpsu We hope so. Thank you. The thing that has been hard is my daughter got in on 11/1 (back in 2014) and we were expecting similar timing this time. I KNOW that’s not how it works. Just makes you nervous. LoL.
