Applied Engineering on 12/26. Application has been “under review” since Jan. 5. 1520 SAT, 35 ACT Subject Tests: Math 2: 760, Physics 1: 750. 5s in AP Calc and AP Physics. Understand that many who applied earlier are in line ahead of me.
@finnb What is your GPA ? Looks like you are a good test taker - are grades as strong ? gpa is 2/3 of the decision.
Daughter applied to UP, summer session. Portal says her app is still under review.
Congrats to everyone that has heard and who heard on Sat! My D is still waiting for nursing. I know the decisions will be out by thurs but did anyone hear today? Nursing or other wise?
Just a few days left. Good luck to all
@lucyvanpelt GPA strong, not outstanding…top 15% in competitive school. I would say it is not so much that I’m a strong test-taker, more that math/science come much easier. All As in high level math-science courses, but not a fan of English or writing and that probably shows. That also explains the engineering major.
Ok. No worries. Sorry. Guess it was TMI.
Son accepted on Friday to Smeal business at University Park Summer 2018
GPA 3.75 UW
1320 SAT
@CollegeParents9 Thx! It is 805 my time. I looked and they are open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Eastern standard time. So I will be calling shortly. And I told my son he must call as soon as he gets home from school which would give him about a half hour before they close. So far they have not responded to either of my two emails since my second one I had to correct something that I had said in my previous one.
@CollegeParents9 NO WAY! First of all growing up that was always my favorite place to go that I did every year during the last week of August. My husband and I went a couple of years ago to what was traditional for me and my family to the sawdust Festival and we have a piece of art up in our home from that. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and my husband and I now live in Valencia by Six Flags Magic Mountain. You are only about an hour away from us.
@Collegedad33- My D is also waiting to hear back and she applied to Nursing as well. She applied in September and went under review in late October. Praying that getting a response back this late does not mean a denial! Good Luck to your daughter.
@nsl123 what classes did he take
I work right next to the Sawdust! Good luck with your son getting in!!
@CollegeParents9 Thx. And remind me… Do you have a son? A daughter? And what campus where they put at and what campus did you switch them to? Also definitely a small world. Are you in one of the other art museums which we always frequent when we do go to the sawdust Festival?
@finnb honestly, I think it is a crapshoot. If you look at middle 50% stats, gpa is 3.55-3.97 and SAT is 1230-1410. Obviously, you are above the SAT - so top 25%, so that is hopeful. However, i don’t know where your gpa comes in.
After the priority deadline, things become much more difficult. and admitted stats become higher. Did you check / would you do the summer session? You may also want to consider switching major to DUS (undecided), but from what I’m hearing, stats aren’t running much lower for DUS this year. (everyone has figured out that is the way to get in).
good luck to you.
@lucyvanpelt Thanks for that helpful information. I wouldn’t do summer. Fortunately, I’ve been accepted to several great engineering programs so I have some options if this does not work out for me.
Omg!!! I just got off the phone with the counselor at Penn State with my intention to ask them if they could switch my son from the campus they put him at which has no campus housing nor any meal plans because it is a commuter school known as Fayette, to see if they could find it in their heart to switch him to one of the other branch campuses that has on-campus housing and meal plans and would give him a sense of college life. His first choice of a branch campus (he had put down after main campus of course) was Abington because it is 15 miles away from Philadelphia where we have family [should] he need family in any situation. The counselor without me even mentioning any of the other campuses as a possibility said that in their system they are showing that he was admitted into the Epperly school science at Abington!!! And they show no indication that he ever was being admitted into Fayette ( which would be a disasterous campus for a city kid from Southern California to be at. To which this counselor even agreed.).
So although it is not the main campus which to be honest would probably not be the right place for him academically at this point… He got into realistically his “first “ choice. The counselor said it is very possible that there was a glitch in the system and that it had put that campus down. But my son has just sent me a screenshot confirming now says Abington! WE ARE!
Congratulations, @Andreq. This is great news, and a testament to the power of a phone call!
@Andreq Great news!
Ok I’ll try to write another since my previous comment wasn’t posted for some reason.
After getting wrong info due to a mixup thinking my son was accepted at a PSU branch campus that would not have worked for him, we have just seen that he was admitted to his first choice branch campus: Abington for the 2 + 2 program!! Although it’s not UP, it actually will be esp for his first two years, a better place for him due to the size. WE ARE!!
@Andreq So glad it all worked out for you and your child!
