@simple0920 There are also many unpublicized scholarships you can look into at Penn State. Most are specific to your college and/or exact field of study. Search them out, they won’t all come to you and it’s a great way to help with tuition if Penn State is your top choice. No one told me about them, all I kept hearing is Penn State gives NO money. Yes, it’s mainly true, you won’t be getting letters with high $ for merit like other schools, but keep looking and call your college and ask. Good luck!
Sorry if it’s already been asked and answered already, but does anyone know when final letters for Schreyer’s acceptances will be posted? Thank you.
@onthesearch814 On another thread someone called and was told mid March.
@LilXenon While it is true that there are not really Penn State merit or need based scholarships that come from the main university, there are smaller scholarships that are available through the college that you are admitted to (other than DUS). So in your case, you’d want to search for College of Engineering scholarships. They are out there. Here is a link to the Engineering department scholarship page: http://www.engr.psu.edu/students/financial-aid-scholarships.aspx
Scholarships at Penn State can be hard to find and get, but people do it all of the time. My niece is a sophomore and gets a scholarship yearly from the college of AG. It’s not enough to cover it all of course, but when you add up other awards it can make a dent in the amount of loans you need. But there’s the rub, many other schools offer enough to cover full boat tuition or close to it. You will not find that at Penn State so you will either need to be self pay or student or parent loans for the rest.
But keep looking - there are also scholarships outside of Penn State that you can look for.
I am international student applying to the college of liberal arts. I completed everything but the SRAR before the 30th of November and the SRAR I completed a few days after yet I still haven’t received a decision. Their website says it should release by the 28th of February (which is today in the US). My application changed to under review about 10 days back. Is there any other date that I am not aware of?
Call admissions, indicate your application was complete around Nov 30/Dec 3 (or whatever date it was) yet you haven’t heard back.
@stius4 I called the admissions office today and was told that they were trying to release all of the December pool decisions this Friday. My D is not an international student though. I’m not sure if it is different for international applicants.
@MYOS1634 @apples11 I’ll give it till Friday and then call them because the other universities that I applied for and released their decisions, released them on Friday.
I phoned them up and they said they’ll release decisions by 16th March.
my account says that they requested my financial aid history even though i havent used federal financial aid within the last academic year? it says this could also be due to a hold on my fin aid through another university, but i haven’t accepted any offers. does the FAFSA not allow me to get financial aid estimates for all my universities?
@ACollegeHopeful3 we are having the same issue. I called PSU financial aid office and they told me not to do anything, the hold will disappear on it’s own. He also said award letters will not be released until mid March. Of course it’s always best to call as everyone’s situation is unique. I was concerned since another in state school has sent us an award letter already so I thought they were holding the state grants for their institution even though we haven’t accepted.
@jlhpsu Thank you for your in-depth response! PSU is definitely a top choice for me. I’ll be sure to apply for those school specific scholarships. Thanks!
@ACollegeHopeful3 not familiar with situation you are describing, but in out experience, few awards are received and all of them have identical FAFSA amount. Possibility i can think of is that you are accepted at ED college you had applied to and ED is a binding decision.
i didnt apply ED anywhere but i had the same message as @PruPru25. called other unis and they said no holds on any aid so i’ll just see if it goes away. thanks all! @PPofEngrDr
@ACollegeHopeful3 @PPofEngrDr , definitely no ED here at all. Just this strange message. I’m going to call again in a week if it doesn’t go away. We are anxious to see the financial aid report and I don’t want this glitch to hold it up.
Hi Reader! I applied to PSU UP on 2nd January and I haven't yet received an update on my application. Albeit, even the 'under review' update cannot be seen on my application. Should I call the office? Or possibly indulge in Yoga to calm my nerves?
