I'm sure this question has been asked before, but does having a parent alum help with chances of admission? Do they ask on the application simply for statistics and such or is that taken into consideration during the admissions decisions process? Thanks!

They like keeping family tradition alive, but don’t think it means too much unless you have an alum who gives a substantial amount of money to the school.

Unfortunately it does help.

I know more than a few people that were definitely helped out by the fact that they had a relative (usually parent) go here.

Thanks for the responses guys. My father is an alum and I put that on the application. I didn’t realize at the time of applying that it would make a difference. The same goes for the summer program. I checked the box to say I would do it but I did not do it because I thought it would help (I didn’t know at the time.) I guess we will see! Thanks again.

I think summer will help, legacy not so much. But why not ask someone in admissions?
