PSU, Pitt, Drexel, Indiana, Towson, Northeastern?

I live in Pennsylvania and want to know my chances at University of Pittsburgh, Penn State: university park, Drexel, Towson, and Northeastern. I applied for undecided or undecided in business for just about all of these school. Today I recieved a letter from Pitt requesting my 1rst quarter grades which are pretty much consistent with what I have gotten throughout high school. I am starting to get more and more nervous so calm me down and tell me my chances please.

1150 (1720) SAT
3.0 GPA (half honors, a few Ap's, and half standard classes)

-4 years of varsity wrestling and co-captain senior year
-Nat. Honors Society
-4 years of jv tennis
-1 year of spanish/latin clubs and stage crew
-Student Gov. 2 years & member of students rights committtee
-ect.

This may not calm you down but my take is:

Drexel - good bet
Penn State, U of Pitt and Indiana - 50-50 chances
Northeastern and Towson (out of state)- low chances

Frankly, I'd add at least one more good bet school.

Of course, I don't have your full application in front of me, nor do I have a crystal ball so I could be totally off. Best of luck!

Are you sure about Towson, that was pretty much my safety school. I believe that the middle 50% of towson sat scores are 1000-1200. Do you have any reccomendations on where else to apply (I am looking at majoring in entrenpreneurship/international business)?

Does anyone else have an opinion?

you will get into towson

I also forgot to mention my sister is an alumni at psu, and now goes to grad. school at Towson while my other sister now goes to Indiana.

Ok...I applied to 3 of the schools on your list there 6 years ago with nearly identical stats...

PSU: accepted to branch campuses but not main

Pitt: accepted but I know I wouldn't have gotten in today

IU: accpeted with small scholarship, but I'm a legacy

Ended up going to and graduating from Pitt...

Things you have that I didn't:

Varsity sports (my high school was way too competitive...)
NHS

Things you don't have that I did (from the little of what you've written):

Jobs (I worked up to 2 jobs the last 2 years of high school)
Club leadership (Yearbook editor)
Rising trend in grades (my trend was very significant and my senior year was the best of them all!)

Don't worry about Pitt asking for your 1st quarter grades, all of the schools ask for your grades. That's why counselors tell you not to slack off senior year, schools can make admittance conditional and if you do poorly senior year they can put you on academic probation before you even start...

I would include your local state school on your list as a just in case back-up...for example, Millersville, West Chester, Slippery Rock, etc. They are all good schools, and I would probably apply to one just for a back-up.

Good luck, I've been there...so feel free to ask me questions!

Cheers

Edit: Forgot to add...my fiance had better stats than both of us and was denied at Northeastern 6 years ago (he was shocked)...again 6 years ago and I don't know how standards have changed over the years...

I posted what I thought was most important. Anyways, i wrote my essay about my business, www.buysomethingawesome.com so I think that should help for the schools that actually read them. One of my friends just got accepted to pitt with better grades but an 1120 sat score.I was thinking about applying to Temple as well as a safety school.

Yeah...you should have mentioned that you run an online business (though they appear to come a dime a dozen these days...). That will likely help you out a bit.

For IU did you apply directly into the business school? I had and wasn't accepted to Kelley but to the arts and sciences or whatever it is...

Also, what area of PA are you from...a lot can be determined by your high school's standings..

Temple would be a good safety for you

All those schools are probably matches, or slight reaches

I go to Lower Merion, one of the top public schools in the country. I believed i applied for undecided with my 2nd choice as the business school.

I also want to thank everyone who has replied. It helps knowing what other people think my chances are.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh when I read:

"Remote Control Fart Machine No. 2"

on your website! lol.. how would the adcoms react to this?!?

From what I can tell Towson has a usual cut off of 3.2-3.3 gpa for acceptance, but I do not know if you can get accepted with a lower gpa from oos. I think it applies instate, even for the more competitive high schools. They seem to be getting the overflow of those rejected from UMD and those who prefer a smaller school, and smaller classes than what UMD has to offer.

For towson, i figured that since i had an an ll50 sat score, i would get in since their upper average is an 1120.

Rank in High School Class
Top 10 ............................ 27%
Top 15 ............................ 40%

SAT I Score Ranges (based on middle 50 percent of accepted class)
Verbal 510 – 550
Math 530 – 570
Average GPA – 3.62

When looking at some student stats in at a MD school, I noticed that once gpa slipped under about 3.2-3.3 then they started rejecting most, unless the sat was above 1200. You can find link to the chart under several of Taxguy's posts (it is a magnet school I believe).

Towson offers 4k aid to anyone in the top 10% of their class from my school. i would likely get a full ride and money on top of that but of course this doesnt concern you. anyways, i def believe you will get into towson dont fret

Coming from Lower Merion will likely give you a slight bit of a leg up in the Pa schools, I don't see it actually getting you into main campus of PSU or anything like that, but it may give you a bit of an edge for say, Pitt.

LMHS is not a top school in the country, pretty much all of the publics in Pa are 'average' or what-not. However, LMHS has pretty good name recognition within the state with their high test scores and such.

Temple is a good safety school, have you though about Juniata College? I think its becoming more popular and solid academic school along with Susquehanna U.

ophiolite, what do you know about Susquehanna, in particular the academics.

Lower Merion= Kobe Bryant

I personally don't know much about the academics at Susquehanna apart from their website. I just know that their reputation has been rising in the past few years...
