PSU (University Park) Class of 2017 Admission Decision Thread!

Buffalogirl, I know that PSU does not consider recommendations. They don’t even read them, so your admissions decision will be based solely on the application and essay that you included when you applied.

Buffalo-I would send a REALLY good personal statement if you’re on the bubble. I honestly think the PS helped our son get into UP in '09.

Beachmom, Will they accept personal statements sent separately from the application?

Hi! I just got the coming days status and am very nervous to say the least. Is it too soon for them to begin to reject people?? Just looking for some reassurance! My SATs are good but gpa a bit low for UP and I know that’s what 2/3 is based on.

Do I have any chance for engineering with a 25 Act (27 math) and a little over a 3.7 W gpa?

@NittanyCheer–this is the part of the application titled “Optional Personal Statement”-most probably just call it the Essay section but our son didn’t do this part like an essay-he really did do it like a personal statement–kind of a Why Penn State and how some of the things he’d done during high school had prepared him for succeeding in college, etc…Our daughter, who has high GPA and scores, just copied and pasted the short essay from her common app in this section so hers was more essay than personal statement-but they probably didn’t read hers anyway.

I’m guessing your application went in and you didn’t do the Optional Personal Statement. If that’s the case, I would call Admissions and tell them you’d like to add that. You might even be able to log into your MyPennState page and do it from there–I know you can still see your application there. If you can still add it there, I would still call Admissions and let them know you updated the application with that–bring it to their attention.

Good luck! I hope you get in–I know the wait/stress is awful for you kids-it is for us parents, too!

D2 Accepted Fall, University Park, to the College of Health & Development!

Does anyone know when they let you know if you were not accpeted to fall UP but accepted to summer? About 6 kids from my sons school were accepted at UP but he hasn’t heard. I’m thinking that because his SAT’s are lower than average (25% percentile) he may be being reviewed for summer.

Yes id like to know the answer to Blewisjrjr’s post as well… A bunch a kids from my school have already been accepted. I applied to engineering and got 1910 on SATS: 620 math 630 CR and 660 writing so I may be a little low for the college of engineering. I probably have a long wait to go but I’d like to know when they start sending out acceptances for summer session

Another question, my schools guidance department is slow and still hasn’t gotten out my transcript but I sent my ACT last week and filled out my application a few weeks before that. Will I get penalized for not having my transcripts in yet…

Hi Nervousgal123:

I am in the same stat as you are 1980sat… 3.7(w)gpa. Col.of Engg: psu-up. Sent on 25th Oct. Not heard back yet… same “Reviewing credentials…” status.

not sure, when would be be conveyed. Let’s stay tuned.

Dragon95, my application was completed around September 12th. I’m not in the top 20% of applicants so I’m assuming that I’m in the “review” later pile. Your SATs are much higher than mine though

I know a few people that did not get into University Park but were admitted to Altoona. Not sure about summer program though

Ok hopefully that means I’m still in the running for UP because my second choice was Altoona…ahh waiting freaks me out hahah

As I’ve stated, things may have changed from 2 years ago-but my D1 was accepted to University Park for Fall 2011 on January 21, 2010-her stats were borderline-3.78-27 ACT. That year summer admits came out shortly after that around the end of January. Penn State must be true to their word in saying that GPA is 2/3 vs test scores being 1/3- my D2 found out last night-her GPA was higher but her ACT was lower. There is no reason to think you won’t get in just because you have not yet heard-each college within Penn State has a different time frame- hang in there-if you have a good GPA and decent test scores your chances are great!

Posted about “coming days” status on Tuesday. The letter came today, before I could even check my account again!

Accepted to Smeal College of Business!

1830 SAT 3.89 w gpa!

Awesome!!

Is it a big letter? Like one of those typical oversized “you’ve been accepted” letters?

No, kinda made me think at first… its a thin white envelope, but big in surface area

Yeah, mine literally only had three things in it; the letter, an info booklet, and some little brochure type thing
