Hello, CC.
I am preparing to enter my senior year of high school. While I’ve got a couple colleges on my list of prospects to apply to in the fall, I’m in need of a little advice. The college which is my top choice (reach) is Pennsylvania State University - University Park. I’ve fallen in love with the campus and the culture and the students on my numerous visits. That said, I’m not sure if it’s a legitimate option for me. So, a little about me…
Caucasian, sixteen, female
First-generation college student
SAT (New, March 5)
690 - Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
620 - Math
17 of 24 - Writing
ACT
29 - Composite
Unweighted GPA - 3.7
I have not taken AP classes, as my school does not offer them, but I have had a full honors/accelerated curriculum for all three years so far, and will be taking accelerated and honors courses my senior year. I am also in the process of gaining college and high school credit with a dual-enrollment program. I have earned three credits and have plans to earn up to 12 more by the end of my senior year.
Extracurricular activities-
*American Red Cross volunteer
*President of school’s chapter of National Beta Club (sophomore year)
*President/co-founder of school’s new drug abuse prevention and outreach program
*Founder of school’s queer-straight alliance (established end of last year)
*Team captain of Envirothon team (Won regional competition, advanced to state level)
*Officer of school choir program & co-coordinator of music department activities
*Volunteer with local AA/Al-Anon programs
*Offer photography services to local charities
*Officer/editor of school yearbook
So, is this a good option for me? I like to think it is, and I hope to apply in the fall regardless.
