Can anyone tell me anything about the MT Program at Pennsylvania State University? Sorry, I know that's vague... but let me know everything you know! Thanks :)

It was one of my daughter’s top five!

Their senior showcases have great production values- with an actual set, live little band and real TV cameras so you have a great video afterwards. You can reach the link of recent showcases at their website. I think more schools that have TV production students ought to think of doing something similar…Of course, there are other things to consider but it’s a dream school for many MT folks, for good reason.

My D is transferring there as a sophomore in the fall. She started in '08 at BoCo, and then decided it was not the program for her. She finished up her GE requirements back home at a cc and then re-auditioned this year. She was completely set on UCLA to the point that she didn’t audition for much else despite the fact that they usually only accept a couple of transfers (I was at my wits end with her!) . She ended up auditioning for PSU as a walk-in and loved the audition and Carey Libkin. She spent quite a bit of time talking with him and decided to look at the program further. She flew back and spent a couple of days visiting classes, taking some voice lessons with a couple of the teachers, and looking at the campus and was extremely impressed with the quality of the program, the voice teachers, the dance program, the acting classes…the whole program. Mr. Libkin and his department really went out of their way to keep in touch with her, and letting her know they were interested. She ended up turning down UCLA and going with Penn- I can’t tell you how impressed she was with every bit of the program. She spent quite a bit of time with a couple of seniors while there and thought they were completely well-rounded and extremely well trained. They told her that they felt they had received not only excellent training in MT, but felt prepared to enter the world of auditioning. I don’t have a lot of details yet as she won’t start 'til August. My D auditioned for about 10 schools between '08 and '10, and really felt like PSU has one of the best programs out there (at least for her- I know everyone is looking for something different). I wish she had looked at it the first time around! You might send a PM to “Jacksdad”- I think his son will be a jr. and he seems very helpful. I know he has posted a lot on the penn state MT thread at the top of the MT forum.
