Hi everyone,
(Another) freshman here deciding on his first semester schedule. I'm trying to pick a breadth course to go with my chemistry, physics, and math classes. These three classes interest me and I was hoping to get some recommendations, advice about their relative difficulty, and what type of assignments/exams are given.
Also, Psych 1 is being taught by professor Gade, Pol sci 2 by Fish, and History 127AC by Chester.

Just a thought, but with Chem, Physics & Math in your first semester, you may want a 1-unit course to make the required 13 units, in case taking 4 big classes feels like way too much at the drop deadline. Upper div history is not “easy” but it might be a nice contrast.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m actually signed up for a freshman seminar (was considering dropping it), but now I’ll definitely keep it as a buffer. As for my breadth course, I think I’m going with psychology, and leaving the more writing intensive history courses until after I get a feel for how I manage technical courses at Cal.

Chemistry and physics (other than 10) are generally among the higher work courses, since they have labs.

Psych 1 with Gade is awesome! Gade is such a fantastic instructor, lectures are interesting, workload is pretty light. Exams aren’t that difficult–just keep up on the reading and review notes beforehand. He also gives you lecture handouts that cover the basics of the material–fantastic study aids! Highly recommend this course!
