Hey psych majors,

150 is with Ayduk. 160 is Keltner and 167AC is Mendoza-Denton.

(as of now, im leaning towards 150 or 160 since it'll be my third decade, and it seems like 167AC will have term papers to write since its AC and i dont really want to write any papers)

I prefer whichever class has the LEAST AMOUNT OF WRITINGGGG and preferably is based on tests that are entirely multiple choice and test only off slides/ASUC notes and also not have copious amounts of required primary source readings so that i can skip lec ;)

needlesss to say, i could care less about social/personality areas of psych-way too dry/fluff material :/ and Im just taking one of these to get the area 4 psych breadth out of the way and get an A...

please help if you've taken any of these classes with these exact professors. thanks :) :) :)

I haven’t taken these classes with these professors, but I took 150 last semester with John (Cool prof - ok lecturer) and am taking 160 this semester with Chen (cool prof, but gives HARD exams). The material in 150 is pretty interesting, but not as fun as I thought it was going to be; the matetrial in 160 is REALLY interesting, but it’s easy to think you understand it.

I’ve heard bad things about both Keltner and Mendoza-Denton. Both of them seem to be egomaniacs and all around ******bags. I’ve seen Ayduk around Tolman and she seems alright.

yeah ive heard the same about those two profs.

do you know what the structure of 150 is with Ayduk by any chance? and are her tests only MC/short answers?

I’m in 150 with Ayduk right now. As a lecturer, she’s nothing special, so you’d easily be able to skip class if that’s your goal. We’ve only had one exam so far, but it was really easy, multiple choice and short answer. Your grade in the class is based entirely upon 3 non-cumulative exams (the final is just a third midterm), section, and rpp. I’ve also taken 160, although not with Keltner. I personally found 160 to be more interesting than 150 has been so far, and I’ve only heard good things about Keltner. If your looking for an easy class, decades are the way to go. I don’t have any experience with 167, but if social/personality psych’s not your thing I’d recommend sticking with the decades, and from your post I’d say 150 is probably your best bet.

excellent! thank you so much! 150 it is.

is section also mandatory? and to be clear are the tests based on her slides?

Section is mandatory, and you’re allowed to miss one or two of them. Technically the tests are based on both the reading and lecture, but I’m pretty sure you could get by without doing the reading. They hand out a study guide with terms and concepts you need to know, and, at least for the first exam, I got by just fine with only reviewing the slides and my lecture notes.

hmmmm…are the readings from a textbook or do you mean primary, empirical types of papers?

and to be clear, she posts her slides right?

Readings are all from a textbook, and slides are posted.

I just declared Psychology so I won’t officially be a major until the end of this semester - should I even bother Phase1-ing 150 or 160 or should I try taking a less popular/non-decade course for Fall 2011? (My telebears appointment is 4/25)

Ideally, I would sign up for 160, but I heard that both 150 and 160 have SUPER long waitlists.

Why don’t you just enroll in one of them during phase I?

on your app dont they let you put in two preferred courses they can let you in once youre declared? this is my first semester as a psych major and i got in to 3 upper divs (although it was a pain to get into one of them in particular). just phase 1 both even if you are automatically waitlisted. once youre psych app clears, they’ll admit you after first giving priority to grad psych seniors, grad seniors needing the class for other majors, finally junior psych declared, etc…basically, it would help if you have a decent class level…on the other hand, your TB is kinda late…i dont know-could be a tossup if you get into decades, but it cant hurt to try. just phase 1 your psych ones assuming you you will be fine phase 2-ing your haas classes

WHOA How did you know I’m also doing Haas? Hahaha.

Yeah, I have to take 5 classes next semester so I’m trying to decide if I want to phase-1 two Haas classes + Psych 101 orrrr two Psych classes and one Haas. I’ll see how the enrollment goes once telebears starts, I guess. On my app for Psychology, I put Psych 101 and Psych 150 and the advisor instantly told me that I’m going to have a lot of trouble getting into them (EVEN if I phase-1 Psych 150, which is why I asked if I should even bother with decades, because I don’t want to waste my phase-1).
Anyways, thanks!! :)

W4C is such a stalker.

Just saying. 5 months later.

hahah

ahem ahem.

am i the only one that notices that a thread that was only last bumped in march is now being bumped by Batman for no apparent reason? i also think I am correct to assume that you probably did not do a site search for either of Psych 150, 160 or 167AC since you are not a psych major…

ergo, this means the only way you could have found this thread is by searching through my thread history…(are you sure I am the stalker now? ;))

BOOM. lawyered.

OR MAYBEEEEE

I know a guy taking 167 and I just wanted to know what it was. Lo and behold CC results came up and I clicked on one.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. DEEEE-NIED.
