Psych Undergrad to Psych Grad Studies Question.

<p>So, I'm hoping to hear from some people that either know someone or have gone through this themselves.</p>

<p>I'm interested in obtaining a 4 year undergrad degree in psychology (either a BA or BS), in the hopes of pursuing a graduate studies in psychology. With the goal of doing research in psychology at a college/university (possibly be a prof).</p>

<p>I'd like to do the undergrad through 100% distance format.</p>

<p>I know there are several good programs like Athabasca U, UMUC .... etc. that are accredited.</p>

<p>But when it comes to applying to grad schools (not distance-online ones, but traditional ones) .... how many will take the distance undergrad seriously enough to offer admissions to their grad studies?</p>

<p>Does anyone know someone who has done it? Or have gone through it themselves?</p>

<p>Are there more reputable universities that offer something similar (with more of name recoginition, and in the eyes of other major uni's more respectable and more serious)?</p>

<p>I don't know the answer to how your distance degree would be viewed, but one consideration would be your ability to gain experience in research. If you think you want to go into research & academia they will want to see that you have done some.</p>

<p>In general, I think traditional academics look down upon distance learning, like U of Phoenix, yet that is changing in some ways. For example, community colleges in CA have specific courses which are articulated with the UC schools-guaranteed to transfer and be creditable. Some of the community colleges offer some of those GE courses online, I am not even sure any one could tell from a transcript that the course is taken online. They are tough courses, too. That would seem to mean you could take most of your classes in a GE online and transfer to a UC to finish.</p>

<p>I am not sure about an entire acknowledged online degree- you would need to do lab sciences in person for sure!</p>
