<p>Not a great field to go into. Managed care has effected this field greatly. Most HMO try to keep patients away from psychiatrists. They make the patients go to social workers or psychologists first. If managed care patients go to a psychiatrist, the number of visits are greatly limited. many psychiatrists work for state hospitals or VA hospitals where the pay is low.</p>
<p>Pay and job growth may not be that great, but you do usually have the most interesting patient stories...</p>
