I am currently finishing my associates in business science and am taking a year off to get full time experience before getting my bachelors. I would like to get my bachelors in psychology with a minor in finance. I have heard psychology is worthless but I love the subject and plan to get an mba . I believe my associates in business is a great pair with the psychology bachelors. I don’t want to be a psychologist I just love the subject and courses. Is this a bad idea and is psychology really that worthless of a major ?
Why don’t you do it the other way? Major in a business subject and minor in psych. You might be able to skip the MBA.
@juillet Always has stuff to say about psych.
I don’t think it’s useless, but I think it’s over-saturated because I feel like when people don’t know what major to do, they pick psychology.
However, if you don’t want to be a psychologist, then why not do a business major and psych minor? An associates in business is not going to make you competitive in the business job market against people that have majors in it. IMO do what @intparent said, switch the major and minor.
Thank you all for your help ! @intparent and @philbegas . I would love to get my mba regardless but I have been interested in accounting but have heard it is hard to keep a good gpa in this major however I’ve taken the introductory courses and got a B in both. Any and all input is and was highly appreciated
Most of the business concepts you’ll learn in management and marketing are based on psychological principles just applied to a business context, and having an understanding of psychology is actually pretty useful in business in general. So I don’t think there’s anything wrong with majoring in psychology and minoring in business. There’s a lot of jobs you can get with it - many of them will be the same jobs you can do with a BA in business.
However, if you want to study accounting, then you should major in accounting.
Thank you for this help. Accounting is my second choice due to the difficulty of keeping a good gpa. I’ve been told several times my psychology major would be useless so I appreciate your input! @juillet
