Psychology Help...Please!!

Hello everybody!

I'm an incoming nursing student, and was wondering whether or not I should take the Psychology CLEP test instead of the actual class, mainly for financial reasons.

One of the reasons I am asking is because I have never taken Psychology before. So far I have "Essentials of Understanding Psychology" by Feldman and the REA book.

Do you think I'll be okay?
So, to CLEP or not to CLEP?

Thanks!

So you have one of the many textbooks CLEP recommended for studying plus a good study prep book (REA). I would suggest locating the CLEP Official Study Guide book. Many have found a local library that has at least one edition on its shelves. Some have bought a used copy, but you also have the option to purchase the $10 download on the CLEP site (after you set up an account in your name) of the individual exam’s study guide. This book (and the download) contains a practice test for you to go through. It will give you an idea of what kinds of questions that will be asked, paying attention to the wording, the depth of the subject matter, etc. Some find that the REA practice tests can be quite different from the real CLEP test. The CLEP practice exam is prepared by the same company, so it should more accurately reflect the real thing.

Once you take a look at the various practice exams, you should have an idea of how much more studying you would need to do in order to achieve a passing score (which your school determines, not CLEP).

Google is also your friend! Don’t go for those sites that promise you will pass. There are quite a number of people who have taken this exam and you should find free access to forums where they have either asked questions (and received answers) or posted their results/comments after taking it, or provided their study suggestions after a pass, or even provided a link to a study page/notes. Check it out…
