I am a sophomore and I am majoring in psychology with a double minor in biology and philosophy. I am very torn between pursuing a career in clinical psychology or a career in psychiatry. I don't mind taking science classes, but either way, I want to be able to counsel my patients through talk therapy. Talk therapy is more important to me than meds; however, I do think it would be nice to have the option to use meds. If anyone has any advice on the matter, please help!

Psychiatrists are generally expensive relative to therapists so talk is usually handled by therapists and meds by psychiatrists. The cost issues mean that psychiatrists get less time talking with patients and more time with medication issues.

Much is driven by healthcare costs and it helps to understand the money issues as they drive care.
