Hey all,

I'm a high school senior whose goal is to ultimately going to med school. I applied as an MCB major but I'm starting to have doubts because while I do well in biology, I don't truly enjoy it. I've been looking at other majors lately, especially Public Health.

Could some of you please shed some general light on what the major is like and how it looks in terms of going to medical school? I saw that the average GPA for Public Health majors is around 3.6, substantially higher than that of many other majors. Does this indicate that Public Health is an "easy" major, and would it reflect badly on medical school applications?

I appreciate your help!

if you are pre-med, there is no such thing as an easy major in my opinion because you have to still take all the pre-med required courses that everyone else also takes. these are the courses that usually bring your gpa down. the upperdivision courses are usually more interesting and less difficult, regardless of major (MCB or PH or Psych or wtvr)

therefore, by comparing the average gpa across majors to decide which to pick, you are not really understanding the whole picture…

hope this helps…(i know a lot of CC’ers will disagree, but oh well)

also, PH is one such major that you will ONLY enjoy if you GENUINELY have an interest in it. otherwise, the courses will seem tedious, meaningless = bad grade for you

bottom-line advice: just major in whatever interests you the most

do public health courses go under your science gpa?

I suppose specific PH classes the deal with any of the specific topics under biology that are listed should work
