First off, what are some good schools in the Midwest for Public Relations? If you are majoring in public relations, do you like it? (what are some pros and cons?) And also, what are specific career paths to take after getting a public relations major? Any help on this topic would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

I would have said that working in pr is something you do after majoring in something like marketing, advertising, business, communications, English language, a foreign language etc. Maybe interning with pr or blue chip companies during your vacations. It’s very much a contacts based business.

You can do in-house pr, work for a pr firm or start up your own pr company. Many have a specific type of client e.g. finance, entertainment, sports etc. These would also be areas to get a minor in, if there’s one that you’d love to work in.

Aside from pr, you can do any job that requires a bachelors or none at all. Teaching, police, military, retail, start your own business, civil service.

Maybe start reading a weekly business magazine to get a feel for jobs, colleges and firms.
