"Published"?

Aight so I just got word that the University of Iowa (never heard of them) wants to publish one of my Chinese essays in their annual magazine. Does this count as a "publication" or something similar? I mean I am not applying to this school, but it should definitely help on my application (I'd put it in the additional information section).

Thanks.

Im Caucasian. The Essay is roughly 1200 characters long.

Published connotes passing a peer review process such as for a journal, at least in my field. This involves submitting a summary of research conducted and then some other people deciding it is meritorious and worthy of publishing in their journal.

yeah, that's kind of what happened here. I mean, my essay was selected to be a piece in the "journal"/magazine of this University. It underwent review, they decided it was "meritorious".....so then i guess it counts?

I would put it on your application, maybe even send in a copy of the article form the magazine so they can see the "proof." Congrats

Yes I should have mentioned this was my conclusion as well, I was just clarifying what "published" meant to me.
