Punishment if you're caught cheating?

Idk man ,maybe she can send email to collegeboard explaining that she didnt do it for herself ,but to help her friend.Maybe if she explains how awful she feels and how she regrets what she did ,maybe she will only have her score cancelled

I wouldnt cheat - I prefer to get a 2200 on my own than to get a 2300 by cheating

I really chuckled on that one. Doesn't take much principle to say that you don't mind being stuck in the top .5% of people haha.

Don't do any explanation. Life moves on, that's what goes on. The hole only gets deeper.

The college board is a very strict organization, and they get angry when people cheat. I know of some people who got their scores invalidated because they were passing around yearbooks to get signed after they completed their sections (AP test). I think that the worst that could happen is that they could get banned from the SAT, but not APs, and their scores would be invalidated with no refund. I agree with the poster who said they should take the ACT. Tell your friend to just calm down and take a deep breath, their life is not over.

will colleges even know? I know he took the SAT's already at least once, so if they ban him from taking more, could he just do score choice and report the first one?

I don't think that the college board will divulge his cheating, it's a mistake and they know that a lot of kids are desperate for a great score. I don't know about what they will do with his previous score, but my guess is they won't touch it.

Doesn't score choice only work with March tests and on?

99% sure that the scores are voided

and score choice started in January, I called the college board just to check.

" Doesn't score choice only work with March tests and on?"

yeah, it was this test.

Collegeboard can handle the situation however they want. After all, a girl who graduated last year at my school was also caught cheating, sharing some answers with her friend in the bathroom (they were openly discussing the questions, dumb idea). She ended up with a 2210 on the SAT (they didn't ban her from retaking the test), but she wasn't even accepted at mediocre schools. I assume the cheating incident had something to do with it, but it doesn't matter anymore - she's going to a local community college that doesn't even care about SAT scores.

Considering how collegeboard actually received the text messages, I don't think things are looking good for your friend. Just tell him to not take any SAT subject tests or AP exams. That way he won't even have to send CB tests to any colleges. Otherwise, he could be really screwed.

Why did the proctor look through the phone? Are they even allowed to do that?

Well someone leaving their phone in an accessible place in the bathroom on SAT day when they shouldn't even have their phone with them is suspicious enough...

Can you even imagine what things happen in international test centers ?I somehow cant imagine proctors reporting cheat in a Romanian test center ...

"Why did the proctor look through the phone? Are they even allowed to do that?"

I was also thinking that. The administrator found one phone, saw who the text was from, pulled the second person from their test room, forced him to give her his phone, and I saw her search through it, find the texts, and forward them to her e-mail. She then also noticed that the text was sent to a second person, so she got him as well.

How can they force kids to give up their phones? My friend just emailed me and told me the school (he took it at his high school, thats why they were even harsher) kept their phones. Isn't that illegal?

anyway, I really hope they don't do anything to these 3 people. they still have to worry about their principal, because if he suspends them, it'll go on their transcripts.

I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for your friend. I don't know why you're not mad at him bc he's screwing all of us by cheating, and its unfair. I HATE CHEATERS!!!! Bt karma's a *****, and he certainly deserves to get screwed over.

This is ironic, its supposed to be a college entrance exam, it just became a college denial exam. I doubt any good college would accept a person who cheats on the SAT.

yea..
idk..personally, i think the scores will just be invalidated...

no, it isn't illegal. test proctors are charged with preventing cheating. they are given the authority to conduct such basic searches with such well-grounded suspicion.

the collegeboard may very well put a note of cheating on what they send to the person's schools. the scores will definitely be invalidated. the school will likely not suspend them, since it is out of their jurisdiction. but collegeboard is serious enough about cheating to not let them get away with such a pitiful slap on the wrist.

Anyone taking the test agrees to these conditions, so the confiscation is perfectly legal.

They probably won't do anything to do the recipients of the message b/c it wasn't their fault that they received them. But they will for sure punish the guy who sent it.
