I wanted to create a new email for my Common App, so that I can have all of those important emails in one place.
I’m applying for history, and cracking historical dad jokes is kinda my shtick, so I was debating whether or not to use a joke email.
Allow me to clarify:
The prospective email is entirely clean and inoffensive. It’s just a pun on my name in reference to a classic movie. Would this be appropriate? Is it worth a potential laugh, or might it just annoy an admissions officer?
To be honest, I don’t really think anyone will really read your email address. It’s not like they’re typing out your address every time you get an email. It’s all automatic. So I don’t know if that sways you to do it or not. Personally, I think having an email with a nice professional address that’s just your name would be better, in case an AO does read it, you don’t want them to think you don’t take college seriously or something like that.
My email address for college applications was FirstnameLastnameLast2digitsofbirthyear@gmail.com, but that’s just me. It’s up to you at the end of the day, but the advantage of creating a more “professional” email address is that you can use it later on for internship/job applications etc.
