Look at the entire campus, not just the area of the intended major. Every Big Ten U has its own flavor, and overall ranking. As one example- UW-Madison and Purdue may have similar comp sci/eng programs but the campuses are vastly different. Be sure to consider all of the other factors for a good fit.

bump...........bump..........anyone

Purdue engineering is excellent

Look at Georgia Tech too.

A question that needs to be researched: Georgia Tech is known to be a school that has no qualms about having hard intro engineering classes that weed out the flock of freshmen. How is Purdue?

As a smaller engr school nearby Purdue--check out Rose Hulman.

Jolynne Smyth--if you are concerned about being in the very top level of CS schools, check out U of Illinois at Urbana-Champain (UIUC.) Consistently in the top 5, along with, as you might guess, MIT, CMU, etc. But more affordable and they (Illinois) do give merit aid.

My S went there, loved it, and is now quite gainfully employed. ;)

i hear purdue weed out a lot of people in freshman year? is this true?
