Purdue engineering vs Ohio State

Would love opinions on Purdue versus Ohio State. Both are out of state but Ohio State with scholarships is almost half the cost. I know Purdue is ranked higher for Engineering but if he decides to change major to Business I think Fisher is a better business school. Thoughts?

I’m an engineering physics major at OSU and I like it. But I’m more in physics than I am in engineering. The only thing I’d say is steer clear of OSU’s aerospace department. Apart from that it’s a great engineering college.

TomServo, can you expand on your “steer clear of OSU aerospace” comment? We are in Ohio and my son is considering aero so of course, OSU is on his list. Thanks!

Nobody ever has anything nice to say about it. The teachers are insane/terrible. The sequencing and scheduling of classes is a mess, etc. I rarely come across an aero major but when I do they have some gripe. In at least one case it was an ex-aero major.

IIRC, University of Cincinnati’ aero department is well-regarded.

My son is not majoring in Aero, any other opinions?

It’s a good place to study engineering, but Columbus is flat, boring, cold in Winter, dumpy, etc. I don’t think of it as a place to live, just a place to finish my BS.

It’s a very good school for mech eng especially, if for no other reason than the size of the program and the many mech eng recruiters who come here.
