Hey CC users. I got admitted to Purdue and UMN for Computer Science. I got a scholarship of 5k in UMN but nothing from Purdue. After scholarships the costs are - UMN-38k and Purdue-47k. Overall I have seen that purdue has a better reputation compared to UMN, but I want to know if it is 9k a year better than UMN.
For CS, IMO, they are the same and UMTC also has the advantage of being located in a big city.
At each school, are you directly admitted to the major, or must you meet a GPA in your frosh year to get into your major?
@ucbalumnus directly admitted in purdue. In UMN they admit everyone to college of science and engineering for first year and require a GPA of 3.2 for CS.
3.2 in college is harder than 3.2 in high school.
The direct admit is a big deal if you are sure you want to study CS. Are both affordable?
Purdue is just a little off budget while UMN is in the budget. I am pretty sure I can get CS in UMN as well. I want to know if Purdue is worth the extra money.
https://www.advising.cse.umn.edu/cgi-bin/courses/noauth/apply-major-statistics indicates Minnesota CS did reject some applicants, but some were admitted with technical GPAs as low as 2.4.
