Purdue University V. University af Arizona

I have been told that it does not matter what undergrad you go to for medical school and i have done some research on both schools and they offer good research opportunities but i want to know will the Purdue name give me better edge then the UofA name will. If you have other info on either school to help with my decision will be a great. Thank You

Go Boilers! As a grad, I’m biased, but Purdue has a solid rep as a rigorous science school. I’m sure UofA is fine, too – as CC folks like to say, it’s what the student does with his/her opportunities that matters most.

@auntiek I heard that that Purdue is know for it’s grade deflation, and with me trying to go to medical school do you think that would hurt me and also is the grade deflation that large to be a issue.

I don’t know, honestly. I’m sure some folks with med backgrounds can answer better than I could.

You’ll be fine at either one but Purdue will likely give you a better education and far better research opportunities. If you change your mind about med school (fairly common especially with socialized medicine on the horizon) you will also benefit from Purdue should you decide to work or go to grad school. Is there a cost difference?

@TooOld4School I’m out of state for both colleges but Purdue tuition is slightly cheaper then UA but UA offerd me a institutional grant while Purdue just offerd the aid giving buy the fasfa which wasn’t much for me.

Purdue is not cheap for OOS tuition. I would look at cost factor. Son got into Purdue for FYE. Just visited campus. We were really impressed with the school.

@Asil65 was Purdue OOS for you and your son or was it in state

It is OOS- I think it ends up being close to 44 K all together.

Purdue is renowned in science and engineering. Arizona is known for astronomy - but I have never heard of it for anything else, for whatever that is worth. Med schools admissions people know about grade inflation and deflation, so that should not be a big factor here.

Purdue OOS is less than UAz?

Weren’t you given any merit scholarships for UAz?? What are your stats?

What are your instate safeties?

Well Purdue has grade deflation since their engineering program have weeder classes.
UAz has a 75% acceptance rate compared to Purdue’s 49%(it’s a lot harder to get into for Engineering) so obviously Purdue will have a better name.
