Purdue University vs University of Miami

So I’m down to Purdue and Miami in my final college decision. Miami gave me a whole bunch of grants so it’s price is about the same as Purdue. Here’s what I’ve been thinking.

Purdue:
Pretty nice campus, although pretty big
Good people, culture, athletics, etc.
Dorms and food seem to be better than Miami
Pretty below average location

Miami:
Much better location
Nice compact and beautiful campus
Better weather by a long shot
Dorms and food seem to be below average

Both school are pretty ranked the same academically and they both seem equal when it comes to how strong their biochemistry programs. I just want to know what you guys think, either from experience or just your opinion. I’m leaning a little towards Miami, but if anyone has a strong stance one way or the other it would be much appreciated.

Which U of Miami? OH or FL? I’m assuming FL because of the weather comment?

What are your goals with your major?

I’m a Purdue parent of a junior chem e. It’s been nothing short of amazing for her but I’m less familiar with majors outside of the college of engineering.

It really depends on how distractible you are. Both are excellent schools, and the cost seems to be the same. On pure academics, I would lean a teensy bit to Miami, since the grants could be a little extra on your resume.

Regarding location, there is nothing to compare - Miami beats Purdue, hands down. This brings us to distractible you are. Miami has far more going on than does Lafayette, IN, and that could have a negative impact on your studies.

So, in my opinion, if you think that Miami would be too much of a temptation, and it can be, even for much older, settled people, Purdue would be a better choice. If you can keep your focus on your studies, despite the attractions of Miami, choose Miami.
