Purdue University

Hi just a quick question.
Is the Purdue University good with chemistry?

If it is, what is the rank?

The University of Purdue is ranked #21 in Chem. according to the US News “Best Chemistry Programs” ranking

https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/chemistry-rankings

@Razer1 The OP did not specify whether it was undergrad or grad school they were looking at. Just to clarify to the OP, the ranking you have is graduate school. Chemistry is not ranked by US news for undergrad, so other ranking lists must be looked at for that.

Generally speaking, if the grad ranking is good, you can bet that the undergrad program is good too.

This does not mean that the grad program must be highly ranked for the undergrad program to be good…

@prezbucky true. Sometimes, though, big state schools put more into their grad school to create that exact appearance. I do not know anything about Purdue’s chem program, so I cannot vouch that they follow that pattern and do not want to mislead OP.

Well there are pros and cons. Undergrads do get to rub elbows with grad students, there are more research opportunities available (though with competition…), and a strong grad program means a strong faculty – how much time that faculty spends with undergrads is the question.

But if big 100-level lectures are ok, Purdue will be just fine. Once you get into the major, classes will shrink.

Thanks guys!
