Purdue Vs. Texas A&M for Electrical Engineering

Hi, I have an offer for Undergrad engineering from Purdue and Texas A&M Dwight Look Engineering college. Which one should I choose? Torn between the two.

Is cost a consideration at all? Which one is in state for you?

It’s a toss up. Both are very good.

Both are good, so I’d base your decision on personal preferences such as location, weather, where you might be more likely to seek employment afterwards (Texas or Midwest), as well as cost.

Investigate how competitive it will be to enter your desired major. Both admit to first year engineering status; students must then apply to their majors after taking some prerequisites.

Both are good schools. Are finances a concern? Net price at each?

Agree with #4. Entrance to major is selective / competitive at both, and depends on major. Compare them to see where your odds of getting your major are highest.
Net price would also be a tie breaker.
Finally, you could think of it as ‘muggy hot humid’ vs. 'snow’in terms of weather downsides.

Hi, Thanks all of you for your time and comments. I am an International student. Cost is not a consideration as both cost almost the same for me. Texas A&M has sent me an invite to apply for Engineering honors whereas Purdue did not. I have no locational preference. My aunt lives in Houston and her son, my cousin is in A&M. Please advise.

Go with engineering honors at Tamu then, especially since having family within a day’s drive is likely to be helpful.

Honors at TA&M

My son got that email inviting him to apply to engineering honors. I figured they sent it to all of the kids that got into Engineering. Does anyone know if that’s the case? He wasn’t in the Top 10%, so he thought he had no chance and hasn’t filled out the application yet.

If they sent him the invitation, it means he has a chance. Sometimes, they figure that whoever can’t bother replying shouldn’t be in honors in the first place and thus a cut is made.

Really? They aren’t MIT, so that would seem a bit short sighted. I’m an Aggie, so I can say that;-) I read in another thread that it’s offered to kids with an ACT score of 31 and above regardless of class rank, which answered my question.

For EE, both are good. A&M has the edge for some subfields of EE, but then Purdue has some other advantages for other engineering fields.

Can you elaborate on what the advantages are? Also, why do you say A&M has the edge for some subfields of EE? Thank you in advance…
